Database Definitions (ttaad4510m000)

Use this session to list the database definitions, which you can maintain or display in the session.

Use the appropriate menu to:

  • Define database definitions for a copy of the database, or to specify an alternative database.
  • Rebuild the table definition file, $BSE/lib/tabledef6.X in the run-time data dictionary. Tools uses this file to find and access the tables in the system configuration.

Use an alternative database when the actual database fails. When the database fails, the data is retrieved from the alternative database.

Restart Tools to activate the changes.

Note:
  • If you start this session by zooming, you can only find and select a record.
  • If you want to create a table definition file on the remote system, make sure that the remote user data is filled in and the variable BSE_REM is set.

Field Information

Database

Specifies the database in the Tools environment.

Description

Specifies the description of the database definition.

System Name

No Help topic is associated with this item.

Database Type

Enter the database type of the database definition code. The data of those tables assigned to a database definition code, is physically stored in its database (type).

If the System Name name field is filled in, the database type of the remote system can be defined on this field. You must use this for converting data to the tabledef6.1 file on the remote system.

Tools supports several database types.

Force to Read

If this check box is selected, the table is force read.

If you use more than one database, or database redirections to another system, you can specify which database must be accessed for specific tables. Typically, the bshell accesses the database that has been specified as the first database in the table's database definition.

There can be reasons, for example, performance, to read the table from another database (type). In that case, you can specify to force read table.

Copy

If this check box is selected, a copy of the database or alternative database exists.
