Report Margin properties

When the report uses columns and lines mode, the report left-, right-, top- and bottom margins, lie outside the grid. A larger left or right margin, with all other properties equal, results in a narrower grid.

When the report uses exact positioning a larger left margin results in shifted layouts, labels, fields, and so on. This is because the layouts have a relative left position from the left margin. The labels, fields and so on have a relative left position to the top left corner of their respective layouts. In this case, the fields in the most right position of the layout can move outside of the layout. They are moved into the margin at the right side of the page. When that happens, you cannot save the design in the Report Designer and errors are shown in the Problems Panel. The solution is to move the applicable fields back into the layout.

These situations can occur:

  1. The PDF properties (ttadv3138m100) session contains report specific margin property values.

The Overrule report specific PDF properties by Report Designer check box in the Report Parameters (ttadv3141m000) session is not selected.

Result: The report specific margin value from the PDF properties (ttadv3138m100) session is shown and is not editable. The lock button next to the margin property is not shown.

  2. The PDF properties (ttadv3138m100) session contains report specific margin property values.

The Overrule report specific PDF properties by Report Designer check box in the Report Parameters (ttadv3141m000) session is selected.

Result: The report specific margin value from the PDF properties (ttadv3138m100) session is shown and is editable. The lock button next to the margin property is shown in an open state.

  3. The PDF properties (ttadv3138m100) session has global, not report specific, margin property value defined.

Result: The global, not report specific, margin value from the PDF properties (ttadv3138m100) session is shown and is editable. The lock button next to the margin property is shown in a open state.

The Overrule report specific PDF properties by Report Designer check box in the Report Parameters (ttadv3141m000) session is not relevant.

  4. The system default value for left- and right margins is used and is by default set to 20 mm.

The system defaults for top- and bottom margins are calculated, with regards to paper size, page length and font.

Result: The default margin value is shown and is editable. The lock button next to the margin property is shown in a open state.

The Overrule report specific PDF properties by Report Designer check box in the Report Parameters (ttadv3141m000) session is not relevant.

Note: For new report personalizations a tool tip of the margin property fields explains where the property value comes from. This tool tip is always available in case the lock button next to the margin property is in a locked state.
Note:

Changing the Overrule report specific PDF properties by Report Designer check box in the Report Parameters (ttadv3141m000) session can have immediately effect on printing reports. This applies mainly for reports that have personalizations and report specific entries in the PDF properties (ttadv3138m100) session. The report properties, such as margins, from the personalization are leading from that moment, and entries in the PDF properties (ttadv3138m100) session are overruled. We recommend that you verify that the report property values are equal to the report specific entries in the PDF properties (ttadv3138m100) session for consistency.
