Connect Components to PMC Solution (ttpmc1221m000)

Use this session to connect software components present in the export VRC to a PMC solution.

The session contains these tabs:

  • Environment: specify the PMC solution to which the software components must be connected, and the options you want to use.

  • Component Selection: specify the component types and the component code ranges.

Environment
Base VRC

A means in PMC to identify products in a unique way. Updates at the distributor side are provided with the base VRC identifier. A base VRC can contain the code of the physical VRC in which the related master product is installed, for example, B61_a, but can also be a code not related to a physical VRC, for example, 7.6_a_tt. At the recipient side, every update VRC is linked to a base VRC identifier. The installation process checks if the base VRC identifier of the update matches with the base VRC identifier of the update VRC. If not, you cannot install the update in that update VRC.

Solution Code

Specify an existing solution code or zoom to the Solutions (ttpmc1100m000) session to select a solution. The code identifies the solution to which the components are connected.

Note

If the following conditions are met, the last character of the solution code must be numeric, for example, SOL003.

Options
Max. Number of Components

Specify the maximum number of components that can be connected to the solution.

This option is available because a large number of components can cause problems at the recipient side. In that case, the components must be distributed over several solutions.

Note

If the specified number is zero, no limitation applies.

What to do when Max. Number is Exceeded

Specify how the process must proceed if the maximum number of components specified in the Max. Number of Components field is exceeded for the current solution.

Various choices of what to do if the maximum number of components is exceeded

The following values specify how the process of linking components to a solution is continued if the specified maximum number of components is exceeded.

  • Cancel
The process is canceled, and no components are linked at all.
  • Stop
The process is stopped. A number of components equal to the specified maximum number is linked to the solution, but the remaining components are ignored.
  • Specify Other Solution

The process pauses, and you are prompted to specify another solution number for the remaining components. If the maximum number is exceeded again, you are prompted again, and so on, until all components are processed. If you specify no other solution number, the process stops, and the remaining components are ignored.

    Note:

You must specify an existing solution number, or create a solution the moment you are prompted to specify the solution number.

  • Next Solution Number

The process itself selects another solution. This process is repeated if the maximum number is reached again, until all components are processed.

    Notes:

    • You can only use this option if the last character of the initial solution code is a numeric character.
    • Solutions that are already released are skipped.
    • Solutions that already contain the specified maximum number of components are skipped.
    • The process creates a new solution if the next number does not identify an existing solution.
    • If the next number does not exist because the range is full, the process stops, and the remaining components are ignored. For example, after SOL999, no new solution can be created.
    • Use this option only if you are sure that the initial solution number is not followed by solution numbers of solutions that are used for other purposes.
Language-dependent Components only

If this check box is selected, only language-dependent components are linked to the solution.

As a result, these language-independent components are excluded :

  • Scripts
  • Objects
  • Functions
  • Non-enumerated domains
  • Additional files
  • Subscription templates

This option is particularly useful for solutions that serve translation purposes.

Selection of components

The user can select one of these choices:

  • Non-expired components
  • Expired components
  • Non-expired and expired components
Basic Selection
Package

A set of related modules that implements a complete part of the functionality, for example, Enterprise Planning, Financials, or Warehousing. Packages are designed to function as independent as possible, to enable a customer to implement only particular packages.

A package code consists of two characters. For example, tt is the code of the Tools package.

Each package has a unique version structure, the VRC structure.

Language

A code that identifies the language.

Source
Export VRC

If this check box is selected, the components that are present in the export VRC of the specified base VRC are all linked to the solution.

Use the options on the Selection tab to select or exclude component types and ranges.

Other Solution

If this check box is selected, you can specify a solution whose component list will be used to link components to your current solution.

Use the options on the Selection tab to select or exclude component types and ranges.

This option is helpful if you want to deliver a solution whose components are (almost) the same as that of another solution.

Solution

The solution number of the solution whose component list you want to use for your current solution.

Specify a solution code or zoom to the Solutions (ttpmc1100m000) session to select a solution.

Patch

If this check box is selected, you can specify a patch whose component list will be used to link components to your current solution.

Use the options on the Selection tab to select or exclude component types and ranges.

This option is helpful if you want to deliver a solution whose components are (nearly) the same as that of a patch, for example, software translations.

Patch

The patch number of the patch whose component list you want to use for your current solution.

Specify a patch code or zoom to the Patches (ttpmc1501m000) session to select a patch.

Sequential File

If this check box is selected, you can specify a sequential file name whose records specify the components that will be linked to the solution.

Use the options on the Selection tab to select or exclude component types and ranges.

The records in the file must have this format:

<comp.type>|<package>|<comp.code>|<languages>

comp.type must be a numeric value, as specified in this table:

comp.typedescription
1Message
2Question
3Session
4Domain
5Table Definition
6Menu
7Form
8Script/Library Source
9Script/Library Object
