Modeling the Shop Floor

Before production can take place, the shop floor of your factory has to be modeled.

Within a site, the job shop production is organized in the following way:

  • The production department is an area (often a building or production hall) where one or more work centers are located.
  • The work center is the area where one or more similar machines are located.
  • The machine is the apparatus where the actual work takes place.
  • Logistic handling and labor utilization for the machines is managed at work center level while the machine utilization is defined at machine capacity group level.

To setup the shop floor you must:

Requirements for shop floor modeling:

  • For all possibly combinations of a machine, a work center, a production department, a labor resource, all entities must be part of the same site.

Using the machine capacity group functionality, you can define a number of machine types per work center and their logistical and planning properties. You can use the Machine Capacity Groups (tirou4161m000) session to define and manage the groups for each work center.
