Labels in Manufacturing

In Manufacturing two kinds of labels are used:

  • Kanban labels
  • Labels for production orders

Kanban labels are used to trigger material supply in the job shop, whereas labels for production order serve as a means to identify finished production orders.

Kanban labels in Manufacturing

If you design the job shop layout in a pull production-environment, you can decide to use Kanban labels to trigger the supply of intermediate products between work centers.

Use the Print Kanban Labels (tirou2402m000) session to create the Kanban labels that trigger supply in the job shop. For example, creating Kanban labels for every operation in a specific routing. After you finished working on products on a specific operation, the Kanban label serves as a means to ask for intermediate products of the previous operation so working can be continued.

Enter the label layout in the Label Layout field of the Print Kanban Labels (tirou2402m000) session. You must define the label layout in the Label Layouts (whwmd5520m000) session. The label layout contains the information type that is on the Kanban label. You must enter the information type by means of descriptions and specific codes. For more information, refer to Label layout and printing. The table below contains an example of descriptions and codes you can choose to use on Kanban labels.

DescriptionCode in the label layout text
Description on Kanban#lb.item
Container quantity#lb.quan.item
Ship from work center#lb.shfr.code
Ship to work center#lb.shto.code
Container#lb.pack.item

The information on a Kanban label can be displayed as follows:
Description on KanbanFrame for bike
Container quantity5
Ship from work centerWelding work center
Ship to work centerAssembling work center

To get the Kanban information printed on the label, Kanban information must be entered in the Routing Operations (tirou1102m000) session.

Production order labels in Manufacturing

Production order labels in Manufacturing identify completed production order quantities. The labels are an aid to move the production order to the warehouse, and contain information such as the number of the production order, the kind of item in the production order, the warehouse to which the items must be transferred, and so on.

Production order labels are printed for completed production orders if the following is true:

  • A label layout is entered in the Label Layout for Printing Labels field in the Production Order Parameters (tisfc0500m000) session.
  • The Print Label during Report Orders Completed check box in the Report Orders Completed (tisfc0520m000) details session is selected. The default for this check box is set in the Default Production Order Data (tisfc0102m000) details session.

Also in the following sessions can be indicated whether labels are printed when an order is completed:

The label layout is defined in the Label Layouts (whwmd5520m000) session. The label layout contains the information type that is on the production order label. In Label layout and printing the codes are displayed that you can choose to use on production order labels.
