Text Groups (tttxt1110m000)

Use this session to create and maintain text groups.

Text groups are used to classify texts into groups. You can define text groups according to the function of the texts and link them as default to text fields or to normal users.

For every text group you must specify a default window type and a text editor.

The available text editors depend on the LN user interface type:

  • In LN UI and Web UI, you can only select the multiline editor.
  • In WorkTop, you can select the multiline editor, Microsoft Word, or Microsoft Word without Rich Text Format.

WorkTop is only supported if Enterprise Server is used in combination with LN 10.3 or earlier.

The text group’s text window size is shown in the grid. For example, [2,3,80x25]. This means that you can start writing text on the second row, third column with a maximum of 80 characters per line, and a maximum of 25 lines per text window.

Text Group

The code of the text group.

You can authorize users to use the texts that belong to a particular text group.

Description

The description of the text group.

External Editor

The text editor that is used to maintain the texts in the text group.

The available text editors depend on the LN user interface type.

This table shows the available text editors per user interface type:

User interfaceText EditorDescription
LN UI, Web UI, WorkTopMulti-lineThis editor is similar to Notepad. However, it runs on the LN Server, not on the client PC.

The text in LN is typically written in the multiline editor.

WorkTopWordWhen you edit a text, MS Word is started. Here you can type and format the text: you can change font types and sizes, change colors, insert pictures, etc. While MS Word is running, the Multi-line editor window is displayed in background. You can use this window to perform text management related tasks, such as disconnecting a text from a record and switching to another language.

Be aware that the text formatting will be lost in non-Microsoft reporting, such as PDF.

WorkTopWord without RTFSimilar to Word, however MS Word is used as a plain text editor only: format settings, such as font types and sizes, colors, etc. are not stored.

Default Window

The default window type that is used for texts in the text group.

A window type characterizes the window in which the text is maintained and displayed. The window type defines the size, position, and appearance on screen, as well as the length of the text lines in the window.

Allow Text Selection

If this check box is selected, users can select texts from the text group, through the Select command, when adding a text to a record that does not yet have a text.

If this check box is cleared, users cannot select texts from the text group when adding a text to a record. The users can still duplicate a text through the Duplicate command.

Clear this check box to prevent that existing texts in the group are linked to multiple records. In this way, you prevent data corruption when a text is edited for a record.
