Order Controlled/SILS setup, assembly kits, and order generation

The order controlled/SILS supply system is applicable if:

  • Supply is triggered by process triggers from assembly, for example, start on a line segment, reporting completion, and so on. Supply is performed for each specific order in line sequence, although call offs can be performed for a number of assembly orders simultaneously.
  • You have fast movers, for example, multiple supply containers, each day.
  • You deal with high-volume parts.
  • There is a direct link between these items and the assembly orders they are used for.
  • One warehouse order set can only supply the goods needed by one assembly order.
Setup

To enable supply of a shop floor warehouse using the Order Controlled/SILS supply system, you must define the following master data in the Item Data by Warehouse (whwmd2110s000) session:

  • Supply System: Order Controlled/SILS.
  • If supply must take place from a warehouse, the Supply from Warehouse check box must be selected and the supply warehouse can be specified.
  • If supply must take place from a supplier or a work center, the Supply from Warehouse check box must be cleared. Whether the supply takes place from a work center or a supplier depends on the item type:

    • If the item type is Purchased, supply must take place from a supplier. A buy-from business partner and a ship-from business partner can be specified from which the supply must take place. If no buy-from business partner and ship-from business partner are specified, LN retrieves the item's default supplier from the Items - Purchase Business Partner (tdipu0110m000) session.
    • If the item type is Manufactured, supply must take place from a work center. LN retrieves the work center from the Job Shop Control module in Manufacturing.
    • If the item type is Product, the supply source of the item displayed in the Actual Supply Source field of the Items (tcibd0501m000) session determines from where supply takes place:

      • A supplier if the supply source is Purchase.
      • A work center if the supply source is:

        • Job Shop
        • Repetitive
        • Assembly
        • Distribution
  • Assembly Kit
Specify the assembly kit that must be used to supply the item to the shop floor warehouse.
  • Trigger-from Station
This field is disabled and LN retrieves the trigger-from station from the assembly kit as specified in the Assembly Kit (whwmd4550m000) session.
Note

You can only select the Order Controlled/SILS supply system if the warehouse is of the Shop Floor type.

Assembly kits

If you use Order Controlled/SILS, kitting is needed to make it obvious for the people or machine at the line station which group of supplied items belong together and are intended for one assembly order. Since the contents (items) of such a kit depend on the specific assembly order, it is not possible to define a kit with a (fixed) list of specific items. Therefore, the kit must be specified the other way around. Not all items that are linked to the kit are delivered to the assembly line, but only the items that are required for the assembly order. For example, three items can be all supplied via the same kit to a same shop floor warehouse, but a specific assembly order only requires two of the three items. Only the two required items are supplied to the shop floor warehouse.

You can specify the assembly kits in the Assembly Kit (whwmd4150s000) session.

Order generation

In a Order Controlled/SILS supply system, supply orders are generated based on a trigger from the assembly line. In LN, you can specify that the supply of the goods required at a particular line station is started when a specific event happens at another (earlier) line station. A number of fixed assembly line events are defined by LN which can be used to trigger supply orders. You can indicate which supply orders must be triggered if one of those fixed events happens for an earlier line station.

If you use Order Controlled/SILS, the quantity to be supplied when a supply order is generated is determined based on the requirements of a specific assembly order. So, for each assembly order one specific supply order is generated.
