Generic Bill of Material (tiapl2510m000)Use this session to define the template data for the Bill of Material (BOM) of an item. Sub-items of the generic item can be either generic items or engineering modules. Based on this template, an order-specific BOM is created when the product variant is created. Generic items can be both main and sub-item, depending on their place in the BOM structure. Through the appropriate menu, you can zoom to the level on which the selected sub item is main item. You can only zoom to a higher level if you first zoomed to a lower level. If you did not first zoom to a lower level, you cannot zoom to a higher level, because the main item can occur more than once as a sub-item in the BOM, in which case it is unclear to which occurrence you want to zoom. Therefore, the Level Up command only serves as return function. If you select an engineering module, you can start the Assembly BOM and Operations (tiapl2520m000) session from the appropriate menu. Note Changes in the generic BOM are not processed in existing product variant structures.
Main Item The ID of the selected item. The item must have the following characteristics:
These characteristics are defined in the Items (tcibd0501m000) session and the Item - Ordering (tcibd2100m000) session. Position A reference number identifying a specific combination of manufactured and component items in a bill of material. The position number is subdivided by sequence numbers that are used to refer to usage of a component between particular dates. By default, LN shows the last position number used, plus 10. This procedure provides the sequence 10, 20, 30, and so on. The numbering of positions is unrestricted. LN recommends that you use the default values so that you can use intermediate numbers to insert components. Position/Sequence The BOM sequence number allows you to define more than one component item for each position. These interchangeable components can have different dates when they are valid. LN also uses sequence numbers when you replace items in BOMs. Example Say, you make bicycles and use frames that you buy from supplier A until August. However, after August you will use identical frames that you buy from supplier B. Do not use a new BOM position number for the second frame. Instead, use a new sequence number. LN assumes that one line exists for each sequence number. LN selects the sequence number that is valid for the date of the operation, or for the unit of the product that is configured. If several lines with the same position number, but a different sequence number are valid, the line with the lowest sequence number is used. Item A component of the main item. The sub-item can be of two types:

Expiry Date The date until which the sub-item is valid for the BOM. Note
Standard Configuration If this check box is selected, the sub-item is part of the standard configuration. The standard configuration defines which items must always be used in this BOM, unless an exception overrules the standard configuration. Exceptions Present If this check box is selected, an exception is linked to the sub-item. You cannot select or clear this check box, but you must select an exception in the Exceptions (tcuef0105m000) session. Click Exceptions to zoom to that session. If this check box is not selected, you cannot clear the Standard Configuration check box.
Level Down Zooms to a lower level, that is, a level in which the selected sub item is main item. Level Up Zooms to a higher level. You can only zoom to a higher level if you first zoomed to a lower level. If you did not first zoom to a lower level, you cannot zoom to a higher level, because the main item can occur more than once as a sub-item in the BOM, in which case it is unclear to which occurrence you want to zoom. As a result, this option only serves as Go Back function.
