Exceptions in unit effectivity

An exception in unit effectivity is the definition of a deviation that applies to a unit effective item. An exception indicates, for example, whether a specific BOM line or a specific routing operation is used for an effectivity unit. Exceptions are often created as a result of customer requirements, or technology upgrades.

An exception is defined for an object. The exception indicates whether the object is valid or invalid. The objects for which you can define exceptions in LN are:

  • Engineering BOM lines
  • Production BOM lines
  • Routings
  • Routing operations
  • Sources of supply strategies
  • Item – supplier data

For example, if you define an exception for a BOM line, it means that the BOM line is valid or invalid (dependent on the setting of the Valid check box) for an item with a specific effectivity unit. In case you define an exception for item – supplier data, it means that a specific purchase business partner is used to supply components for a specific unit effective item.

An exception is on the one hand linked to an object and on the other hand to an effectivity unit, or to a requirement as well as an effectivity unit:

Check box settings for objects

For every object, always two check boxes are present with regard to exceptions:

  • Exceptions Present check box. If this check box is selected, one or more exceptions are defined for the object.
  • Standard Configuration check box. If this check box is selected, the object is part of an item’s standard configuration. The costs for the object are included in the standard cost. If the Standard Configuration check box is cleared, the object is not part of an item’s standard configuration. The costs for the object are not included in the standard cost. The Standard Configuration check box in combination with the setting of the Valid check box in the Exceptions (tcuef0105m000) session indicates whether an object is used for a specific effectivity unit.
    • If the Standard Configuration check box is selected, and the Valid check box is cleared for an exception linked to the object, the object will be omitted for a specific effectivity unit or requirement.
    • If the Standard Configuration check box is cleared, and the Valid check box is selected for an exception linked to the object, the object will be added for a specific effectivity unit or requirement.
