Date-effective supply source

You can temporarily change the supply source of Purchased, Manufactured, or Product items.

The supply source that you specify in the items sessions as the default supply source, can be overruled by an actual supply source selected for a specific period of time in these sessions:

Specifying the item type in the Date-Effective Supply Source (tcibd0510m000) session allows you to share data between logistic companies and control the supply source by logistic company. Specifying the item type in the Date-Effective Supply Source by Site (tcibd1155m000) session allows you to share data between sites and control the supply source by site.

LN checks what the supply source is at the current date and time for processes such as:

  • Standard cost calculation
  • Production BOM explosion
  • Lead time calculation
  • Production order generation

You can use the date-effective supply source to:

  • Change the make or buy decision together with other LN data, by approving change orders in Data Management.
  • Keep a history of the switches between the supply sources.
  • Plan in advance to switch the supply source.
  • Explode the routing and the bill of material on production orders for purchased items. This is necessary if the items are purchased internally within the logistic company, from a different enterprise unit.
Change control of date-effective item data

If you use Data Management, you can use the Change Management module for the change control of the supply source. LN enters the supply source and its effective date and expiry data when you approve a change order in the Change Management module. In this way, you can change the supply source and other LN data at the same time. You must select the Change Management Allowed check box in the Items (tcibd0501m000) or Items by Site (tcibd1550m000) session to indicate that you want to use change order control for the item.
