Reference Designators by Item (tcibd0120m000)

Use this session to link reference designators to an item. Later on, you can link the reference designators to the BOM lines of the item in the Bill of Material (tibom1110m000) session.

It is not mandatory to manually link reference designators to an item in this session, but it can be useful when one or more reference designators are only applicable to a specific item.

If you do not manually link reference designators to an item in this session, reference designators are displayed in this session after you linked reference designators to the BOM lines of an item in the Bill of Material (tibom1110m000) session.

Item

The raw materials, subassemblies, finished products, and tools that can be purchased, stored, manufactured, and sold.

An item can also represent a set of items handled as one kit, or which exist in multiple product variants.

You can also define nonphysical items, which are not retained in inventory but can be used to post costs or to invoice services to customers. The examples of nonphysical items:

  • Cost items (for example, electricity)
  • Service items
  • Subcontracting services
  • List items (menus/options)
Reference Designator

Indicates the location to insert a component on an item, for example, where to mount an electronic component on a Printed Circuit Board. Reference designators are often used in electronics, and can originate from a Computer-Aided Design (CAD) station.

Description

The description of the reference designator. This can be, for example, a code that expresses the location where you must mount a component item.
