Items - Freight Defaults (fmfmd1101m000)

Use this session to view and maintain freight defaults for combinations of item types and item groups. Items and item groups are maintained in the Item Groups (tcmcs0123m000) session and the Item Defaults (tcibd0102m000) session.

If you define freight default values for a given combination of item type and item group, these values are defaulted for items that have this item type and item group. Of course, you can overrule the freight default values for individual items in the Items - Freight Management (fmfmd1100m000) session.

To define freight defaults, first select an item type and an item group. Then, select the appropriate values for the available freight-specific attributes. You can define default values for the following freight-specific attributes:

  • Transport type
  • Transport means group
  • Combination code
  • Freight class
  • Shape
  • Tax Code

Item Type

A classification of items used to identify if the item is, for example, a generic item, a service item, or an equipment item. Depending on the item's type, certain functions will only apply to that item.

Item Group

A group of items with similar characteristics. Each item belongs to a particular item group. The item group is used in combination with the item type to set up item defaults.

Transport Type

The transport type for the current combination of item type and item group. If a transport means combination or a transport means group is selected in the current session and a transport type exists for the transport means group or transport means combination, the transport type is taken from the transport means combination or transport means group. You must not change this value. The selected transport type will be the default transport type for items for which the current item type and item group exist.

Transport Means Combination

Transport means combination.

If a transport means group is selected in the Transport Means Group field, you cannot select a transport means combination. If a carrier is inserted for the current item, the transport means combination must be attached to this carrier. In the Transport Means Combinations by Carrier/LSP (fmfmd0144m000) session, you can attach transport means combinations to carriers.

Transport Means Group

The transport means group for the current combination of item type and item group. For the transport means group that you select in this field, the Independent Use Allowed check box must be selected. The selected transport means group will be the default transport means group for items for which the current item type and item group exist.

Combination Code

The combination code for the current combination of item type and item group. If a transport means combination or a transport means group is selected in the current session and a combination code exists for the transport means group or transport means combination, the combination code is taken from the transport means combination or transport means group. You must not change this value. The selected combination code will be the default combination code for items for which the current item type and item group exist.

Freight Service Level

The freight service level for the current combination of item type and item group. The selected freight service level will be the default freight service level for items for which the current item type and item group exist.

Freight Class

The freight class for the current combination of item type and item group. The selected freight class will be the default freight class for items for which the current item type and item group exist.

Freight Price Group

A group of items to which the same pricing characteristics apply.

Piece Unit

The piece unit for the item. Note that a conversion factor must exist between the inventory unit of the item and the piece unit.

Additional Rate Unit

A quantity by unit against which you can define freight rates. You can choose from the units defined in Common. Many freight rates are based on distance and weight. Additional quantities/units enable you to define rates that are based on other units, such as volume, or define rates that are based on combinations of distance, weight, and other units.

Example 1

Freight rate by additional quantity/unit:

Additional Rate Quantity: 1 pallet, Distance: 1000 km

Amount byDistance: 10

Example 2

Freight rates by combinations of units by distance/zone:

Weight: 10 kg

Additional Rate Quantity: 1 m³

Break Type: Minimum

Distance:0100500
Amount byDistance101520
Amount byWeight5510
Amount byAdditional Rate Unit557

In this example, freight rates are based on distance by weight and volume. Shipment SH0001, from Amsterdam to Rotterdam, includes the following details: Distance: 70 km, Weight: 50 kg, Volume: 7 m³

The freight costs for shipment SH0001 are:

 10 * 70 (distance) + 5 * 50 (weight) + 5 * 7 (volume) = 985
