Kanban

The kanban supply system is applicable if:

  • The items supplied are used as parts (nuts, bolts, grease, oil, and so on).
  • The exact usage of parts for an assembly order or production order is not known.
  • Inventory management is not possible or required for the shop floor warehouse.
  • Inventory records of parts are not maintained for the shop floor warehouse.

Typically, the items are defined as floor stock items, and the warehouses as shop floor warehouses. However, the kanban system also allows the use of non-floor stock items and normal warehouses.

Kanban orders are generated to supply the items from a business partner, work center or warehouse to a shop floor warehouse.

Such floor stock items are typically low-cost and high-volume materials used to manufacture items or assemble component items into end items. A floor stock item can be used to manufacture or assemble various items.

Kanban orders

Kanban orders are manually created during production. Having visually verified that a kanban bin is empty, the user starts the Generate Orders (KANBAN) (whinh2200m000) session to create a kanban order. LN inserts the default order data such as the order quantity and number of kanban bins in this session after the user scans or specifies the label code, or specifies the item and the warehouse.

Kanban setup

The kanban supply system is set up in the Item Data by Warehouse (whwmd2110s000) session. For a warehouse and item, specify:

  • KANBAN as the supply system used to supply the warehouse with the item.
  • The default values for the kanban orders
  • The mask for the bin label layout
Note

In the Global Update of KANBAN Parameters (whinh2200m100) session, you can adjust the kanban settings for selected ranges of warehouses and items.
