Procedure for linking reference designators in the EBOM

In LN, reference designators are linked to material on the EBOM lines. You must carry out the following steps:

Step 1. Define reference designators

Define reference designators in the Reference Designators (tcmcs0190m000) session. The reference designators can have, for example, a name or code that indicate the location where a component must be inserted on an item.

Step 2. Link reference designators to an engineering item revision

If desired, you can link reference designators to an engineering item revision in the Reference Designators by Engineering Item (tiedm0120m000) session.

Linking reference designators to an engineering item revision manually is not mandatory, but can be useful when one or more reference designators are only applicable to a specific engineering item revision. If you do not manually link reference designators to an engineering item revision in this step, reference designators are linked automatically to the engineering item in the Reference Designators by Engineering Item (tiedm0120m000) session after you carry out Step 3.

Step 3. Link reference designators to material on an EBOM line

In the Engineering BOM (tiedm1110m000) session, you can link reference designators to a specific EBOM line. Therefore, select the EBOM line, and click Reference Designators by (E)BOM in the appropriate menu. The Reference Designators by Engineering Bom session now starts.

Step 4. Select reference designators

You must click New in the Reference Designators by Engineering Bom (tiedm2110m000) session, to link reference designators. You can zoom to the following sessions to select reference designators:

A reference designator can apply to one or more items on the EBOM line. You must use the Quantity field in the Reference Designators by Engineering Bom (tiedm2110m000) session to indicate the number of items on the EBOM line to which the reference designator applies.

Example

Suppose, the item quantity on an EBOM line is six:

  • If you enter 1 in the Quantity field in the Reference Designators by Engineering Bom (tiedm2110m000) session, the reference designator applies to only one item of the quantity on the EBOM line.
  • If you enter 5, the reference designator applies to five out of six items of the EBOM line quantity.
  • You can also enter a quantity of, for example, 2 for one reference designator, and 3 for another reference designator.
  • You can enter a quantity of 6 for a reference designator, which can mean that all items on the EBOM line must be mounted on the same location.
  • If the item quantity on a EBOM line is six, you can even enter 4 as the quantity for one reference designator, and 3 as the quantity for another reference designator. This signifies that one of the items on the EBOM line is related to two reference designators.
