Rules (tgbrg7500m000)

Use this session to view, specify, and maintain rules.

To create a rule expression (IF-part):

  1. Select a rule.
  2. Select the Rule Condition command to start the Text Editor.
  3. Enter business functions or business processes following the IF logical operator. Note that you must leave a space between the operators and the operands (for example BF,1).
  4. Close the Text Editor.

Select the Then part of Rule command to create the Then part of the expression in one of the following sessions:

You cannot select the Then part of Rule command if the rule is of Consistency type. In that case, the Then segment of the rule expression must be specified in the Text Editor.

You cannot change rules:

  • From a derived-from version
  • From another version than the current modeling version.
Note

If you have started this session by zooming, you can only find and select a record.

Using logical operators

If more than one business process or business function is incorporated in the rule expression, these must be separated by one of the following logical operators:

  • or
  • xor
  • and
  • not
  • (
  • )
Checking and applying rules

Rules are checked ( Consistency rule type) or applied (other rule types) in reference models and/or project models. Rules of Consistency type are checked:

The Help information of the sessions below describes how rules of type other than Consistency are applied:

Current Modeling Version

The version you currently use to create and modify model items.

Rule Type

The type of rule.

Rule

An expression.

A rule is used to:

  • Check the consistency of a business function model (consistency rules).
  • Transform a business function model to a business process model (transformation rules).
  • Assign a value to the application parameters (parameter setting rules).
  • Assign a value to static conditions (static condition setting rules).
Version

A group of model items that share some characteristics, such as the customer, owner, and effective date.

Description

The description or name of the rule.

Text

This field indicates whether a text is available, which provides you with further information about the rule.

Expired

This field indicates whether the rule has expired.

Rule Condition

If you click this button (or command), the Text Editor is started and you can create or maintain the IF part of the selected rule.

In the case of consistency rules, you must also use the Text Editor to create and maintain the Then part of the rule.

Then part of Rule

If you click this button (or command), one of the following three sessions is started depending on the type of rule: Set Parameters by Rule (tgbrg7117m000) session Select Business Processes by Rule (tgbrg7127m000) session Set Static Conditions by Rule (tgbrg7137m000) session

In each of these sessions you can create or maintain the Then part of the rule.

Copy Rule to Current Version

If you click this button (or command), the selected rule is copied to the current modeling version.

Change Current Version to Rule Version

If you click this button (or command), the current modeling version is changed to the version of the selected rule.
