Unit effectivity as a lean configurator in Sales

To use unit effectivity, you must first define the master data as described in To set up unit effectivity. After that you can use unit effectivity in two ways:

  • The first way, described in section To configure effectivity units, is to create a predefined effectivity unit that contains the variations or modifications for a specific (unit effective) item. To sell the effectivity unit, you can enter it on a sales quotation line, or a sales order line for the appropriate (unit effective) item.
  • The second way, described below, is to deploy unit effectivity as a lean product configurator. If an unit effective item is included in a sales quotation line or a sales order line, a new effectivity unit is automatically generated, after which you can start configuring according to the requirements you desire.
Procedure

You can trigger unit effectivity directly from a sales quotation line, sales order line, or sales contract line if you enter an unit effective item. After that, you use unit effectivity as a lean configurator.

Carry out the following steps:

  1. Define the master data for unit effectivity as described in To set up unit effectivity
  2. Enter an unit effective item on one of the following lines:
    • Sales quotation line in the Sales Quotation Lines (tdsls1501m000) details session.
    • Sales order line in the Sales Order Lines (tdsls4101m000) details session.
    • Sales contract line in the Sales Contract Lines (tdsls3501m000) details session.
If the Generate Effectivity Unit during Demand Entry check box is selected in the Unit Effectivity Parameters (tcuef0500m000) session, a new effectivity unit is automatically generated and displayed in the Effectivity Unit field. If the Generate Effectivity Unit during Demand Entry check box is cleared, an effectivity unit is generated when you click Requirements in the next step.
  3. Click Requirements to start the Effectivity Unit (tcuef0102m000) session. The quantity ordered is taken from the sales quotation line, the sales order line, or the sales contract line. A description for the effectivity unit is generated that includes the sales order number, the sales quotation number, or the sales contract number, a prefixed code (ORD for a sales order, QUO for sales quotation, or CON for sales contract), and the sales order line, sales quotation line, or sales contract line number.
  4. On the Requirement tab of the Effectivity Unit (tcuef0102m000) session, add requirements. If you click (Re-)Import Requirements on the appropriate menu, default requirements that you defined in the Item - Requirements (tcuef0108m000) session can be imported for the effectivity unit.
  5. If you specify an effectivity unit on a sales order line, you use unit effectivity as a lean configurator. Consequently, often optional material is used. Therefore, the estimated cost can deviate substantially from the standard cost. The estimated cost for the specific effectivity unit can be displayed and recalculated in the header of the Effectivity Unit (tcuef0102m000) session. For every requirement, you can define an upgrade price, which is added to the effectivity unit's sales price. Use the Print Multilevel Cost Calculation (ticpr2420m000) session to print the multilevel calculation of the (estimated) cost , depending on the effectivity unit.
To customize unit effective items on a sales order

If you want to customize a unit effective item on a sales order by using the Generate (Project PCS) Structure for Sales Orders (tdsls4244m000) session, a full copy method is used. This means that the complete bill of material as well as all operations, applicable to all effectivity units, are copied to the PCS project. In addition, all exceptions linked to BOM lines and operations are copied.

If you make changes to an effectivity unit in a PCS project, for example, by changing the effectivity unit on the linked sales order, you do not need to regenerate the PCS project because all data related to the unit effective item is already present. Furthermore, the changed design of an effectivity unit is automatically taken into account for the next order planning run in Enterprise Planning.

Note

Unit effective routings are not copied to the PCS project. Similar to routings that are not unit effective, either the default routing of the unit effective item, or a routing based on fixed order quantity or economic order quantity is copied to the PCS project.
