You can specify item ordering data for items of these types:

In the Items - Ordering (tcibd2100m000) session, you can specify data such as:

  • Limits for the quantities that can be ordered
  • Default values that are used to generate the orders

The item ordering data includes the order policy for the item.

In the Customize group box, you can specify this data:

The order system for the item can be:

If the order system is Manual or FAS, the order method must be Lot for Lot.

Details and restrictions

The following additional details and restrictions apply to the various kinds of items:

  • Purchased and Manufactured items
You can select the Purchase Schedule in Use check box in the Items (tcibd0501m000) session only for Purchased and Manufactured items. Orders for these items are then issued according to a purchase schedule. If you use a purchase schedule, the order system must be Planned and the order method must be Lot for Lot.
  • Items of type Generic

If you specify ordering data for a generic item, the Customize check box must be selected for the item. The customized items that you derive from the generic item inherit only the relevant generic item's ordering data. Ordering data that is used for make and store to stock items, is irrelevant for customized items. For example, the economic order quantity is a calculated value based on a formula. Therefore, in case of customized items, the following fields get predefined values:

    • Reorder Point: 0
    • Order Costs: 0
    • Service Level: 0
    • Safety Stock: 0
    • Number of Periods: 1
    • Period Type: Month
    • Seasonal Pattern for Safety Stock: [empty]
    • Seasonal Pattern for Forecast: [empty]
    • Lot Size Calculation Allowed: [cleared]
    • Method: Lot for Lot
    • Order Quantity Increment: 0.0
    • Minimum Order Quantity: 0
    • Fixed Order Quantity: 0
    • Economic Order Quantity: 1.0
    • Maximum Order Quantity: 99999999
  • If the Customize check box is selected, but the With PCS check box is cleared for a generic item in the Items - Ordering (tcibd2100m000) session, the configured standard items (CSI) concept is applied to the item. These items are processed without using the Project Control module.

  • List items
For list items, you can specify ordering data only if the list item type is kit.
  • Tool

Purchased items that have the Tool item specification in the Items (tcibd0501m000) session must have the ordering data listed below, regardless of whether you use a purchase schedule. The order quantity settings define the recommended order quantity for planned orders.

    • Customize: selected
    • Order system: Manual
    • Order method: Lot for Lot
  • Service

Service items are not tangible, physical items like Purchased and Manufactured items, but they can represent services or work carried out by your suppliers or subcontractors. Service items are mainly used for cost accounting, in the same way as cost items. Service items can be used in any Operations Management package. You can specify service items that are not used in Service at all.

It is not mandatory to define item ordering data for service items. However, if you want to create purchase orders and register receipts of service items, you must define the warehouse item data for the service items in the Item - Warehousing (whwmd4100s000) session.
