To set up lot items

To use lot control in Warehousing, in the Warehouse Master Data Parameters (whwmd0500m000) details session, select the Lot Control in Use check box.

Masks for lot-code generation

You can allow LN to generate lot numbers according to a mask. For more information, refer to Defining a mask.

In the Lot Control Parameters (whltc0500m000) session, set the masks for generated lot codes in the following fields:

  • Purchase Order Mask
  • Production Order Mask
  • General Purpose Mask
Note

If no mask has been defined in the Lot Control Parameters (whltc0500m000) session, or LN cannot find an applicable mask, LN searches for an applicable mask in the Mask by Item/Item Group (tcibd4505m000) session.

If no specific mask can be found, LN uses the company's default mask.

Lot and serial registration templates

You can prepare registration templates to determine in which stage of the receipt process or issue process the lots must be registered. For more information, refer to How to define lot and serial registration templates.

Prepare item data

To organize the storage and handling of items in lots, and to determine how LN handles lots, take the following steps:

Step 1. Define the lot item.

Define an item and select the Lot Controlled check box in the Items - General (tcibd0501m000) session. You can define every type of item defined in LN as a lot item.

Step 2. Specify the mask.

If you want to link the item to a specific mask, use the Mask by Item/Item Group (tcibd4505m000) session. Note that this mask is only used if LN finds no applicable mask in the Lot Control Parameters (whltc0500m000) session.

Step 3. Select additional tracking.

To track the orders by means of which lot items were received or issued, in the Item - Warehousing (whwmd4100s000) session, select the Lot Tracking check box.

Step 4. Select the type of lot control.

In the Item - Warehousing (whwmd4100s000) session, select or clear the Lots in Inventory check box. If you clear that check box, LN applies a limited form of lot control. For more information, refer to Lot control (not in inventory).

Step 5. Select registration options.

If you cleared the Lots in Inventory check box in the Items - Warehousing (whwmd4500m000) session, the following options are available to enable registration of lot codes:

If lot registration is enabled, the registration is mandatory.

Note that you must always register lot codes for issues from the warehouse (except issues related to transfer orders).

LN falls back to these parameter settings if no relevant lot and serial registration template is available. For more information, see also step 6. "Select registration template."

Step 6. Select registration template.

If you cleared the Lots in Inventory check box in the Items - Warehousing (whwmd4500m000) session, you can also enter a template in the Lot and Serial Registration Template field.

Conversion of a non-lot item to lot item

In general, you can no longer change the lot-control setting after you receive or issue inventory for an item. To convert a non-lot item to a lot item or vice versa, use the Convert (to) Lot Item (whltc1202m000) session.

In the same session, you can convert an item with Lots in Inventory = Yes to Lots in Inventory = No, and vice versa.
