Master routings and routing options

A master routing identifies a collection of operations that must be carried out. You can link one or more master routings to an item. For example, Repair and Overhaul are both master routings that you can apply to a machine.

A routing option is a further specification of a master routing. For example, Repair after 2000 machine hours and 3000 machine hours.

The routing option consists of a set of operations (defined in the master routing) that you can carry out on an item. Each operation is:

  • Based on a reference activity.
  • Identified by a unique sequence number.

The operations that are added to a routing option must have the same characteristics, for example, the same work center.

Example

You define master routing MR1 to overhaul machine 1. You want to overhaul machine 1 after 600 machine hours, 1000 machine hours, and 2000 machine hours. Routing option 1 is created for the operations that must be carried out after 600 machine hours, Routing option 2 for the operations that must be carried out after 1000 machine hours, and routing option 3 for the operations that must be carried out after 2000 machine hours.

You can now create a routing matrix for the master routing. In this matrix, you can store the set of operations that must be carried out for each routing option.

The operations that are defined for master routing MR1 are:

Seq no.Ref. Activity
1Inspection
2Disassembly
3Cleaning
4Replace part 124
5Replace part 125
6Replace part 124
7Testing

For routing option 1, you must carry out operation 1, 2, 3, 4, and 7.

For routing option 2, you must carry out operation 1, 2, 3, 5, and 7.

For routing option 3, you must carry out operation 1, 2, 3, 6, and 7.

Note

You can also create a routing matrix for serialized items.
