Work centers

A work center is a location where production activities take place. Depending on the activities, people and machines are lined to specific work centers. Work centers are maintained in the bill of critical capacities.

Work centers are used to:

  • Define machines, tasks and routings in Routing.
  • Define the company calendar.
  • Calculate the cost price of items by using operation rate codes linked to specific work centers.
  • Define customized routings and activities in network planning in Project Control.
  • Calculate rough capacity requirements in Master Planning.
  • Calculate estimated and actual costs of production orders, using the operation codes that are lined to a work center.
Note
  • In Enterprise Planning, work centers are used when a generic routing is defined.
  • The budget (in hours) and actual hours for a work center are maintained in People.
  • Production order planning by work center is done in Shop Floor Control.
