Engineering BOM (tiedm1110m000)

An EBOM is a bill of material for an engineering item revision.

Use this session to display and edit the component parts of the EBOM. The components can be either E-items or production items, such as purchased items or manufactured items.

Engineering Item

The code for the engineering item (E-item) for which you want to define a bill of material (BOM). To enter a new E-item, click New or click Find a record.

Note

The following items can only be non-configurable items:

  • Main item

  • Sub item

Description

The name of the main (or parent) item.

E-Item Revision

The engineering item's revision for which you are defining a bill of material (BOM).

E-Item Revision

The parent or main revision of the E-item for which you are defining a bill of material (BOM).

Note

Each revision can have a separate EBOM.

Status

The status of the revision.

BOM Quantity

The number of manufactured items to which a bill of materials (BOM) applies. The BOM quantity enables you to specify very small item quantities as BOM components.

Example

You need very small amounts of certain colors to mix one liter of a specific paint, Cotton White. Therefore, a BOM quantity of 1000 liter is defined. The component quantities for the paint can then be as follows:

Paint Cotton White, 1000 liter:
White999 liter
Yellow0.6 liter
Red0.2 liter
Blue0.2 liter

Position Number

The position number of the EBOM line.

This is equivalent to the position number of a PBOM, except there is no sequence number. A sequence number defines items that are valid on different dates. Revisions can carry out that (of defining items that are valid on different dates) function for engineering items.

Component Type

The type of the component in the EBOM line.

Component

The component of the engineering item (E-item) revision. The component can be either an E-item or a standard item.

Note
  • You can enter a new component if you click New. You can modify an existing component if you double-click the component line.
  • An EBOM is formed by listing the components of each item revision. The EBOM components can have their own BOM, where they are referred to as E-items.
Component Revision

If the component is an E-item, LN enters the revision of the E-item that you select which has the status In-design in this field. You can only maintain EBOMs for revisions with the status In-design.

StandardConfiguration

If this check box is selected, the EBOM line is part of an item’s standard configuration. The costs for the EBOM line are included in the standard cost price. If the StandardConfiguration check box is cleared, the EBOM line is not part of an item’s standard configuration. The costs for the EBOM line are not included in the standard cost price.

The StandardConfiguration check box in combination with the setting of the Valid check box in the Exceptions (tcuef0105m000) session indicates whether an EBOM line is used for a specific effectivity unit.

  • If the StandardConfiguration check box is selected, and the Valid check box is cleared for an exception linked to the EBOM line, the EBOM line will be omitted for a specific effectivity unit or requirement.
  • If the StandardConfiguration check box is cleared, and the Valid check box is selected for an exception linked to the EBOM line, the EBOM line will be added for a specific effectivity unit or requirement.
Note

If the EBOM line has exceptions attached, but you do not want to use the exceptions, for example, for selling spare parts, or for an end item which is not unit-effective, then you can clear this check box.

Exceptions Present

If this check box is selected, a exception is attached to this EBOM line. You can see that exception by clicking Exceptions in the session.

Length

The length of the component that is on the EBOM line.

Note

Length can also be used to calculate Net Quantity:

			 Net Quantity =
			 Length *
			 Width *
			 Number of Units.

Extra Information

You can enter eight characters of text. If you want to enter more text, click Text Editor.

Width

The width of the component.

Note

Width can also be used to calculate Net Quantity:

Net Quantity =
			 Length *
			 Width *
			 Number of Units.

Text

If this check box is selected, a text is present.

Number of Units

The number of times the component occurs in the EBOM. For a physical item, this is equal to the number of units that are in the length or area you have defined.

Note

Number of Units can also be used to calculate Net Quantity:

Net Quantity = (Length * BOM
Conversion Factor) * (Width * BOM
			 Conversion Factor) *
			 Number of Units /
			 Conversion Factor

  • If the component has no Width, the value of ( Width * BOM Conversion Factor) is left out of the formula.
  • You can define conversion factors in the Conversion Factors (tcibd0103m000) session. LN uses the conversion factor which is applicable to the units of the item or E-item.
  • BOM Conversion Factor is the conversion factor from the base unit to the BOM quantity. This is derived from the BOM Unit of Measure.
Net Quantity

The quantity of a component or material that is theoretically required to make a certain quantity of a product.

This quantity is referred to as the net quantity because in practice you may need more than this quantity to make up for certain losses of the material or the product.

Note

This value must be greater than zero.

Quantity Independent

If this check box is selected, the E-item's net quantity is copied to update the scrap quantity in the BOM.

If this check box is cleared, the E-item's net quantity is copied to update the net quantity of the BOM.

Reference Designators Present

If this check box is selected, one or more reference designators are present in the Reference Designators by Engineering Bom (tiedm2110m000) session.

You cannot modify this check box.

To view or maintain reference designators, click Reference Designators by Engineering Bom.

Alternatives Present

If this check box is selected, one or more alternative materials are present in the Use Up and Alternative Materials by Engineering BOM (tiedm2115m000) session.

You cannot modify this check box.

To view or maintain alternative materials, click Use Up and Alternative Materials by Engineering BOM.

Use Up Materials Present

If this check box is selected, a use-up material is present in the Use Up and Alternative Materials by Engineering BOM (tiedm2115m000) session.

You cannot modify this check box.

To view or maintain alternative materials, click Use Up and Alternative Materials by Engineering BOM.

Allow Multiple Items

If this check box is selected, LN can distribute the net quantity of the material over multiple items. For example, the net quantity can be divided over the use-up material and the standard material or over the standard material and one or more alternative materials. If this check box is cleared, LN issues only a single item for this BOM line for one production order.
