Date-effective item data

You can enter an effective date and an expiry date for the item sourcing types Purchased and Manufactured. As a result, these attributes apply during the specified period of time.

The item type that you specify in the Items - General (tcibd0501m000) session and the Item - General Defaults (tcibd0102s000) session is the default item type. This is overruled by the item type selected for specific periods of time in the Date-Effective Item Data (tcibd0110s000) session. The data in the Date-Effective Item Data (tcibd0110s000) session is company-specific. Specifying the item type in the Date-Effective Item Data (tcibd0110s000) session allows you to share data between logistic companies and control the item type per logistic company.

LN checks what the item type is at the current date and time for processes such as:

  • Cost price calculation.
  • Production BOM explosion.
  • Lead time calculation.
  • Production order generation.

You can use the date-effective item type to:

  • Change the make or buy decision together with other LN data, by approving change orders in Data Management.
  • Share the general item data between logistic companies and control the item type per company.
  • Keep a history of the switches between the item types Purchased and Manufactured.
  • Plan in advance to switch the item type between Purchased and Manufactured.
  • Explode the routing and the bill of material on production orders for purchased items. This is necessary if the items are purchased internally within the logistic company, from a different enterprise unit.
Change control of date-effective item data

If you use Data Management, you can use the Change Management module for the change control of the item type. LN enters the item type and its effective date and expiry data when you approve a change order in the Change Management module. In this way, you can change the item type and other LN data at the same time. You must select the Change Management Allowed check box in the Items - General (tcibd0501m000) session to indicate that you want to use change order control for the item.
