Using unit sets

You usually want to express quantities of an item in different units for different purposes. For example, you can produce an item by volume, store it by pallets, and sell and invoice it by kilograms. You usually manage manufacturing tools by the piece.

Use unit sets to specify the units that are used for each item. You must also define unit sets for:

  • Engineering items
  • Subcontracting item
  • Equipment
  • Tools

You can link a unit set to items or item groups.

Inventory unit

For each item or item group you must specify the inventory unit. The inventory unit must be included in the item's unit set. It does not need to be one of the base units of the company.

Example

You can define 1 kilogram as the base unit of weight and use an alternative unit of 100 kilogram as the inventory unit of an item.

Item dependent conversion factors

For each unit of the unit set, you must specify the conversion factor to the inventory unit of the item or item group to which you have linked the unit set.
