Informix

Before installing the ERP LN software, you must install the Informix software. To install the Informix software, use the Informix Installation Manuals.

Requirements

Install the latest version of the Informix software. You can use several hardware configurations to install ERP LN with Informix Dynamic Server. For more detailed sizing information, contact Infor.

Nomenclature

Several Informix products exist. The official name of the Informix product that ERP LN supports is the Informix Dynamic Server. Throughout this chapter, Informix Dynamic Server is called Informix.

Multibyte settings

The INFORMIX Language Supplement must be installed for ERP LN in combination with a mulltibyte language installation. A multibyte installation requires double the amount of disk space.

Set the following environment variables:

  • CLIENT_LOCALE -> Define the client locale.
  • DB_LOCALE -> Define the database locale.
  • NLS_LANG -> Define the NLS language.
SHMADD

Before you install ERP LN, extend the value of SHMADD in your onconfig file to the following:

SHMADD 32768 # Size of new shared mem. segments (Kbytes)

If you use the standard value 8192, you can reach the maximum number of shared memory segments. Therefore, the database stops responding.

Installation process overview

Informix installations are version and system-dependent. Check your Informix documentation for the installation procedure for the Informix version you want to install. You must install the following three products:

  • INFORMIX IConnect.
  • INFORMIX Dynamic Server.
  • INFORMIX Server Administrator (ISA).

For the specific installation procedure, follow the Informix Server Administrator Installation Guide.

After installation, the user must be able to connect Informix Server Administrator through internet browser.

Login and add the local Informix server to the server-selection page.

After the Informix server is added, select this Informix Server and run the following tests:

  • Is it possible change server mode to online/offline?
  • Is it possible to create a new dbspace?

Before you continue with the ERP LN installation, ensure the Informix server is online.

Note

If Apache is used and no dbspaces can be created, the “Log On As” property in Apache service must be checked. To have the correct permissions, the service must run as “.\informix “.

Informix Server Setup for ERP LN usage

A new Informix Server instance for ERP LN usage must be created. The required configuration depends on how the ERP LN database will be created.

To create an ERP LN database, choose between automatic and manual database setup.

If the automatic database setup method is used, a new typical Informix instance with 100 Mbytes root dbspace is required. No further configuration is needed to the Informix onconfig file. The Installation Wizard will do the configuration automatically.

Important!

Before the server will be initialized, use an editor to edit the onconfig file in the following:

%INFORMIXDIR%\etc

The ROOTSIZE must be set to 100 MByte. The ROOTPATH can be changed.

If the automatic database setup method is used, the Installation Wizard automatically does the following:

  • Changes settings in onconfig file.
  • New dbspaces are created.
  • Logical logs are created.

For information about automatic database setup and Informix instance reconfiguration, refer to the Informix Appendix.

If the user chooses the manual database setup method, the user is responsible for the Informix server instance configuration and database creation. The user must ensure all required pre-requisites in Appendix C are met.

The manual configuration is more flexible. However, the user must have sufficient knowledge about the configuration settings.

Note

The Installation Wizard will not run any automatic database server reconfiguration when the ERP database is found in his database server.

If all the required Informix software is installed and configured, you are ready to start the Staging Wizard.
