AS
Acronym for Application Server. An application server runs the Infor LN programs and processes data. This server is connected to a master application server, where it retrieves the program objects and the runtime data dictionary.
BSE
Acronym for the Software Environment; the directory in which the Infor LN software is installed.
Database
A collection of data that is organized so that its contents can easily be accessed, managed, and updated. A database has tools to search for data in the database, sort the data in the database, and so on.
DMS
Acronym for Database-Managed Space. In a DMS tablespace, the database manager controls the storage space, which is located on a raw device or cooked file.
Infor ERP
The Infor LN application. Available versions are; Infor LN IVc, 5.x or LN.
Installable unit
An installable unit is a software component that can be installed and deployed on its own.
Installation Wizard
The Installation Wizard can install the components stored in the staging area.
MAS
Acronym for Master Application Server. A computer that stores the Infor LN programs and runtime data dictionary, shared by the Infor LN users. A MAS can also act like an AS, and thus can run the Infor LN programs and process data.
Package Combination
A combination of several different packages. Every package combination has its own package VRC. The package combination links users to a certain version of the Infor LN software. Also, the package combination can be linked to one or more users and to one or more companies.
SMS
Acronym for System-Managed Space. In an SMS tablespace the operating system controls the storage space.
Solution License Manager
Besides checking whether it is valid to run a specific part of the Infor software, this proces is used to count and administrate the total number of licenses, that are in use. When it is not valid to run (parts of) the software the license manager will block the use, and a warning message appears.
Staging Area
A staging area is a location where IU's can be pre-loaded. If all the needed IU's are pre-loaded an Installation Wizard can install the IU's stored in the staging area.
Staging Wizard
The Staging Wizard is an application that is part of the Staging Area. With the help of this tool, IU's are easily installed from a media to a Staging Area.
Virtual Machine
A program that runs the Infor LN applications. The Virtual Machine serves as an interface program between the applications, operating system, user interface, and database. This open system architecture allows the applications to operate on all supported combinations of operating systems, user interfaces, and databases
