Kanban setup

The kanban supply system is set up in the Warehouse - Item (whwmd2110s000) session. For a warehouse and item, specify:

  • KANBAN as the supply system used to supply the warehouse with the item.
  • The default values for the kanban orders
  • The mask for the bin label layout

Typically, the items are defined as floor stock items, and the warehouses as shop floor warehouses. However, the kanban system also allows the use of non-floor stock items and normal warehouses.

To define a warehouse as a shop floor warehouse, select Shop Floor in the Warehouse Type field of the Warehouses (whwmd2500m000) session. To define an item as a floor stock item, select the Floor Stock check box in the Item - Warehousing (whwmd4100s000) session.

To enable the supply of items to a warehouse of the type Shop Floor using the kanban supply system, in the Warehouse - Item (whwmd2110s000) session:

On the Supply tab

  1. In the Supply System field, select KANBAN.
  2. If the item is supplied from a warehouse, the Supply from Warehouse check box must be selected and the Supply Warehouse can be specified.
  3. If the item is supplied by a supplier or a work center, the Supply from Warehouse check box must be cleared. The item type determines whether the item is supplied by a work center or a supplier:

    • If the item type is Purchased, the item is supplied by a supplier. A buy-from business partner and a ship-from business partner can be specified to supply the item. If no buy-from business partner and ship-from business partner are specified, LN retrieves the item's default supplier from the Item - Purchase Business Partner (tdipu0110m000) session.
    • If the item type is Manufactured, the item is supplied from a work center. LN retrieves the work center from the Shop Floor Control module in Manufacturing.

On the Kanban tab

  1. Bin Quantity
The default quantity that must be supplied in a bin.
  2. Number of Kanbans
The number of bins used to supply the assembly line or production line. You can also calculate the number of bins.
  3. Supply Quantity
The default quantity that must be supplied for a kanban order. The supply quantity is calculated by multiplying the bin quantity with the number of kanbans.
  4. Label Layout
The code of the layout used to print labels for kanban.
  5. Kanban ID
The identification number of the bin. To generate the kanban ID, select Generate.

The number of kanban bins can be specified manually or calculated. To calculate the number of bins, you must also specify the following fields:

  • Average Daily Demand
  • Stock Coverage
  • Horizon for Historical Demand
  • Horizon for Future Demand

Optionally, you can specify a percentage in the Buffer field. For more information, refer to Calculation of supply quantity, number of kanbans, and average daily demand.

Note

In the Global Update of KANBAN Parameters (whinh2200m100) session, you can adjust the kanban settings for selected ranges of warehouses and items.
