Import CAD application data with the Exchange module

You can import CAD application data in ASCII format using the Import Data (on a Regular Basis) (daxch0224m000) session. The data includes:

After the data has been imported, you can retrieve it in the following sessions:

  • Engineering Item (tiedm0110m000)
  • Engineering Item Revision (tiedm1100m000)
  • Engineering BOM (tiedm1110m000)

The method to import data for engineering items, revisions and engineering BOMs is as follows:

Engineering items

In the Engineering Item (tiedm0110m000) session you must record data in the following fields, such as:

  • Engineering Item
  • Description
  • Order Policy
  • Item Group
  • Item Type
  • Product Type

You can import data for the E-Item Text field by choosing the field type Multiline Text. A text number is generated in the Texts (tttxt1100m000) session during this process.

For each item type/item group combination you can fill the following fields from the Items - General Defaults (tcibd0502m000) session using a condition script Exchange module:

  • Product Type
  • Selection Code
  • Item Signal
  • Order Policy

The values of the Search Key I and Search Key II fields can be obtained by left alignment and conversion to capitals of the fields Description and Engineering Item, respectively.

Revisions

You must record data in the following fields in the Engineering Item Revision (tiedm1100m000) session:

  • Engineering Item
  • Engineering Item Revision
  • Effective Date
  • Status

You can import the value for the E-Item Revision Text by choosing the Multiline Text field type in the Exchange module. During this process a text number is generated in the Texts (tttxt1100m000) session.

Fill the Date from CAD field with the date on which the data will be copied.

There are a number of restrictions governing the use of the Status field. See Engineering Item - Item Relationship (tiedm1101m000).

Engineering BOMs

In the session Engineering BOM (tiedm1110m000) you must record data in the following fields:

  • Engineering Item
  • Revision
  • Position
  • Component
  • Component Type

If the Component Type is E-Item, the component on the field Component must already exist as an E-item. If the Component Type is Item, the component in that field must already exist as an item.

Note

You can import the value for the Text field by choosing the Multiline Text field type in the Exchange module. During this process a text number is generated in the Texts (tttxt1100m000) session.
