Reference Designators by Engineering Item (tiedm0120m000)

Use this session to link reference designators to an engineering item. Later on, you can link the reference designators to the BOM lines of the engineering item in the Engineering BOM (tiedm1110m000) session.

It is not mandatory to manually link reference designators to an engineering item in this session, but it can be useful when one or more reference designators are only applicable to a specific engineering item.

If you do not manually link reference designators to an engineering item in this session, reference designators are displayed in this session after you linked reference designators to the EBOM lines of an engineering item in the Engineering BOM (tiedm1110m000) session.

Engineering Item

An item in the process of development.

You can define multiple revisions of an engineering item. Typically, the most recent revisions are still in a design or test phase, another revision may have been taken into production, and older revisions are obsolete.

A normal item can only become revision-controlled when it is copied from the Engineering Data Management module.

Revision

The revision in which the reference designator is used.

Reference Designator

Indicates the location to insert a component on an item, for example, where to mount an electronic component on a Printed Circuit Board. Reference designators are often used in electronics, and can originate from a Computer-Aided Design (CAD) station.

Reference Designator

The description of the reference designator. This can be, for example, a code that expresses the location where you must mount a component item.
