Work Centers (tirou0101m000)

Use this session to list and maintain work centers. Work center data is used for cost estimating and for planning purposes.

On the appropriate menu you can choose:

You cannot delete a work center, if:

  • The work center is a main work center with one or more sub-work-centers.
  • The work center is still active in LN.

 

Work Center
A specific production area consisting of one or more people and/or machines with identical capabilities, that can be considered as one unit for purposes of the capacity requirement planning and detailed scheduling.

When you define a work center code, you must find out which work center influences the cost estimates of production orders.

The Type of Operation Rates field in the Cost Price Calculation Parameters (ticpr0100m000) session determines whether a work center has an influence on the estimated costs. The Type of Operation Rates field can be set to either Task Relationship Rate or Work Center Rate.

The number of work centers need not match with the number of physical work centers in your organization, as not every physical work center has an impact on estimated costs.

In the Production Planning (tisfc0110m000) session, you can modify the planning by having an operation carried out at another work center. In that case, the resource units must be similar.

  • The work center cannot be deleted if used anywhere else in LN.
  • Before you can define a work center you must define a department in the Departments (tcmcs0565m000) session.

If this check box is selected, the work center, which is defined as Subcontracting Work Center, has no linked subcontractor.
Note

This check box allows users to model scenarios and define master data for production of items with subcontracted tasks or parts, while the subcontractor is yet to be determined.

General
General
Address
A full set of addressing details, which include the postal address, access numbers for telephone, fax, and telex, e-mail and Internet address, identification for taxation purposes, and routing information.
City (Letterhead)
The name of the city that must be printed before the date in the department's letter headings.
Company
Enterprise Unit
A financially independent part of your organization that consists of entities such as departments, work centers, warehouses, and projects. The enterprise unit's entities must all belong to the same logistic company, but a logistic company can contain multiple enterprise units. An enterprise unit is linked to a single financial company.

When you carry out logistic transactions between enterprise units, these are posted in the financial companies to which each enterprise unit is linked. You can define the relationships between the enterprise units, and thus the goods transfer that can take place between the enterprise units. To use invoicing and pricing between enterprise units, you must link the enterprise units to internal business partners.

You can use enterprise units to do separate financial accounting for parts of your business. For example, you can define enterprise units for separate parts of your organization that belong to one logistic company, but that are located in different countries. The accounting of each enterprise unit is performed in each country's national currency, and in the financial company linked to the enterprise unit.

You can change the work center's enterprise unit in the Departments (tcemm1124m000) session. However, once you have set up the multisite structure, you can no longer change the enterprise unit.

Finance Company
The financial company to which the work center's enterprise unit is linked. Transactions created by the work center are posted to this financial company.

The company to which a department, warehouse, or project belongs. In most cases, this is the logistic company in which the department, warehouse, or project was created. Logistic transactions originating from a department, warehouse, or project can only be created in their operational company.

Calendar Code
A register of days that contains information on the availability of, for example, resources or business partners at a specified time range.

The field is not applicable, when the Station Type field is set to Line Station or Buffer.

Extra Intrastat Info
For sales offices and purchase offices, this is the default Extra Intrastat Info set for warehouse orders created by the office.

If you link a warehouse to the sales office or purchase office, the extra Intrastat information set is the default extra Intrastat information set for orders created by the office. You can change the extra Intrastat information set on the warehouse order lines.

Main Work Center
The main work center pertaining to the work center in question.

If the work center is a sub work center of a main work center, you must enter the code of the main work center in this field.

If you use shared work centers, the secondary work center is always a main work center, even if the primary work center is a sub work center.

Subcontractor
The subcontractor, if the Work Center Type field is Subcontracting Work Center.
Note

You cannot specify this field if the Subcontractor Independent check box is selected in the Work Centers (tirou0101m000) session.

Shop Floor Warehouse
A warehouse that stores intermediate inventory in order to supply work centers. A shop floor warehouse is linked to one or more work centers and can be supplied with goods by means of replenishment orders, or by pull-based material supply.

The pull-based material supply methods are:

  • Order Controlled/Batch (only applicable in Assembly Control).
  • Order Controlled/SILS (only applicable in Assembly Control).
  • Order Controlled/Single (only applicable in Shop Floor Control).
  • KANBAN.
  • Time-Phased Order Point.

The items stored in the shop-floor warehouse are not part of the work in process (WIP). When items leave the shop floor warehouse for use in production, their value is added to the WIP.

You can only enter a value in this field if the Use of Sh. Fl. Wareh. check box in the Shop Floor Control Parameters (tisfc0100s000) session is selected.

The value of the Warehouse Type field in the Warehouses (tcmcs0103s000) session must be set to Shop Floor.

Backflush Employee
The employee number to which hours are posted in People by means of backflushing.
Costing
Operation Rate Code
The operation rate code that is linked to the work center and serves as the work center rate.

You must define operation codes in the Operation Rate Codes (ticpr0150m000) session.

This field is only enabled if the following is true:

  • The Type of Operation Rates parameter in the Cost Price Calculation Parameters (ticpr0100m000) session is Work Center Rate or Task Relationship/Work Center Rate.
  • The Work Center Type is not Subcontracting Work Center.
Costing Work Center
A work center, when linked to a planning work center, that is used to calculate the end item unit costs, WIP transfers, and production results. The financial transactions related to production orders are then posted to the costing work center.

The link between a costing work center and a planning work center enables you to replan production order operations. If required, you can change the work center that is used to carry out an operation without disturbing the costing process.

Note

If the work center is of the Sub Work Center type, the costing work center of the sub-work-center's main work center is automatically displayed. However, you can change the costing work center in this field.

Station Type
The type of work center that is used in the Assembly Control (ASC) module.

This field can have the following values:

Buffer Type
If the Station Type field is Buffer, you can select a buffer type. A buffer type defines in which sequence the components at the buffer leave the station.

Allowed values

No. of Random Access Places
The number of random access places of a random access buffer from which LN can choose to achieve the desired sequence for the next assembly line segment. The number of random access places determines the number of products that can go directly from the buffer to the assembly line.

Suppose you define 10 random access places for a buffer. This means that during the line sequencing process LN can choose at random out of a total of 10 (different) products in the buffer to achieve the proper assembly order sequence.

The value of this field is used in the Assembly Control (ASC) module. You can enter a value if the following is true:

  • The work center is of the Sub Work Center type.
  • The Station Type is of the Buffer type.
Important!

If you want to be able to change the sequence of orders from the previous line segment to the next, you must enter a value that is greater than 1.

If this field has the value 1, there are no places available that can be used to change the sequence of the orders.

In that case, LN cannot sequence the next assembly line segment.

Note

If the Buffer Type is FIFO Buffer, the value of this field is one.

Optimal Buffer Utilization
The maximum number of products that can be stored in the buffer. During the line sequencing process, LN can fill the buffer up to the quantity you specify in this field, which is the maximum amount of units that can be handled by the buffer.

You can only enter a value if the following is true:

  • The work center is of the Sub Work Center type.
  • The Station Type is of the Buffer type.
Planning
Capacity
Basic Week Capacity
The weekly capacity of each resource unit in the work center. This value is used to calculate the normal capacity of a work center by week, which is displayed in work center utilization reports.
Basic Day Capacity
The daily capacity of each resource unit in the work center. This value is used to calculate the normal capacity of a work center by day, which is displayed in work center utilization reports.
Number of Machines
The number of machines that are available for production on the work center. This value can be calculated and updated in the Calculate Resources (tirou0201m000) session.

LN searches for all machines allocated to a work center by means of the Machines (tirou0102m000) session. The number of machines for a work center is calculated as follows:

number of machines = sum of weekly capacities of all machines linked to work center / weekly capacity of work center

The work center's weekly capacity is defined in the Basic Week Capacity field of this session.

The number of machines and the number of operators that is linked to a work center is used to calculate the work center's available capacity.

Number of Operators
The number of operators that is available on the work center. This value can be calculated and updated in the Calculate Resources (tirou0201m000) session.

Each work center is a department. LN searches for all operators assigned to the department by means of the Employees - General (tccom0101m000) session, and sums up their weekly capacities. The number of operators for a work center is calculated as follows:

number of operators = sum of weekly capacities of all	operators linked to work center / weekly capacity of the work	center

The employees' weekly capacities are entered in the Employment field in the Employees - People (bpmdm0101m000) details session. The work center's weekly capacity is defined in the Work Centers (tirou0101m000) details session.

The number of machines and the number of operators that is linked to a work center are used to calculate the work center's available capacity.

Number of operators = (40 + 30) /40 = 1.75, because the hours of employee A is 40 and employee C is 30. The hours of employee B are ignored as the Last Date is set to 2000 -10 -31 (the date earlier to current date), and hence B is no longer the employee for the date set.

Critical Capacity for Planning
This field is used by Enterprise Planning and PCS network activities:
  • Enterprise Planning
    Dependent on the value, Enterprise Planning uses man capacity or machine capacity to express the capacity use in the resource master/order plan.
  • PCS network activities
    Dependent on the value, PCS network activities use man capacity or machine capacity to calculate the value of the Aggregated Capacity Requirements field in the Activities (tipcs4101m000) session and the Activity Overview by Project (tipcs4502m000) session.

SFC does not use this field because in SFC the capacity use is always expressed in terms of man capacity as well as in terms of machine capacity.

Critical Capacity Type

Lead Times
Time Unit
The time unit in which Wait Time and Queue Time are expressed. The time unit of the sub-work-center can be the same as the time unit of its main work center.

If the time unit relates to the queue time, Days and Hours must be interpreted as days and hours in the working time calendar that is linked to the work center. If the time unit relates to the wait time, no calendar is used. The availability of time is considered as 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Allowed values

  • Hours
    Lead times are expressed in hours and fractional values are allowed.
  • Days
    Lead times are expressed in days and fractional values will be rounded to integer values.
Queue Time
The amount of time that an order remains at a work center before setup or work is performed on it.

The queue time is used in lead time calculation. The queue time is expressed in days or hours. The days or hours must be interpreted as days and hours in the working time calendar that is linked to the work center.

If the Time Unit field is Days, LN rounds the entered values of the lead times to integer values.

Wait Time
The time that an order remains at a work center after an operation is completed until it is moved to the next operation.

LN does not plan wait times according to a specific calendar. Planning of the wait time is based on a 7 * 24 hours week schedule.

A typical example is the time required for drying after the application of paint.

When LN calculates the start times and end times of planned orders based on the routing, LN takes the wait time into account.

The plan buffer enables you to build in a certain tolerance between successive operations, which makes it possible to shift operations.

The wait time is expressed in days or hours. The days or hours do not relate to a calendar. The availability of time is considered as 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

If the Time Unit field is Days, LN rounds the entered values of the lead times to integer values.

Note

This field is not accessible if the Work Center Type field is Costing Work Center, or if the Station Type is Line Station or Buffer.

Move Time
The time that a semifinished good is in transit from one operation to the next operation. After the last operation, the move time is the time to transfer the finished good to the warehouse.

Move time is one of the lead-time elements LN plans according to a specific calendar.

If the Time Unit field is Days, LN rounds the entered values of the lead times to integer values.

Miscellaneous
Desired Queue
The difference that the user wants between the output and input of a work center. This value is the default for initial queue calculations.
Critical in Master Planning
If this check box is selected, the work center is critical. As a result, the work center is included in the bill of critical capacity used in Enterprise Planning.
Use Rough PCS Capacity Requirement
In PCS network planning, the work center's capacity can be consumed by:
  • PCS rough capacity, which is defined in the Activities (tipcs4101m000) session
  • Capacity required for SFC production orders and planned production orders in Enterprise Planning.

This check box determines how the work center's capacity is consumed:

  • If this check box is cleared, the work center's available capacity is consumed by the capacity required for the SFC production orders and planned production orders in Enterprise Planning. The rough capacity requirements defined in the Activities (tipcs4101m000) session are not taken into account.
  • If this check box is selected, the PCS rough capacity defined for activities in PCS, and the capacity required for SFC production orders and planned production orders in Enterprise Planning are subtracted from the work center's available capacity. Therefore, double consumption of work center capacity occurs.
Print Instructions
If you use a microrouting, you can define instructions for production orders for each operation and for each operation step. If the value of this field is Yes, those instructions are printed.

You can only use Not Applicable as a value if the Work Center Type is Sub Work Center. In this case, the sub-work-center inherits its main work center's value of the Print Instructions field.
