Engineering Data Management Parameters (tiedm0100m000)

Use this session to define the parameters for the Engineering Data Management module.

This session contains:

  • A history list of the Engineering Data Management parameters sets and their effective dates.
  • The current parameter set, located at the top of the list (without an effective date).

To view historical settings, double-click one of the historical parameter sets.

To view or change the current parameter settings, double-click the set without an effective date that appears at the top of the list.

If you make the required changes and save the new parameter set, LN performs the following actions:

  • Adds the new set to the history list.
  • Updates the current set, located at the top of the list.

Effective Date
The date and time that the parameters are valid. The parameters are valid up to the effective date of a more recent parameter setting. The current parameter set has no effective date.
Description
The description of the parameter set.
Number Group for MBC
If you define a mass BOM change in the MBC (tiedm3110m000) session, LN generates an order number by using a first free number. The parameter that you enter here determines from which number group the free number is generated.
Number Group for MBC
The description of the number group used to generate mass BOM changes in EDM.
Series for Revision
LN uses the series you enter in this field to generate revision numbers for engineering item revisions.
Customize Copied Item
If this check box is selected, standard items that were copied to project items while an engineering BOM was copied to a production BOM will become project items in the production BOM. The BOM and routing are also copied.

If this check box is cleared, an item will remain a standard item when it is copied to a project BOM.

PBOM History
If this check box is selected, when you copy an EBOM to a PBOM, the old PBOM lines are kept, and the new lines (copied from the EBOM) have new sequence numbers (a subdivision of the position number).

If this check box is cleared, the old BOM data will be overwritten.

Performance aspects

The setting of this field could affect system performance and database growth. For more information, refer to BOM history in Engineering Data Management.

Manual Revision Numbering
If this check box is selected, you can enter the revision number manually when you create new revisions.

If this check box is selected, and you finalize an mass BOM change (MBC), take these steps:

  1. Create a new MBC.
  2. Define MBC actions.
  3. Define an include/exclude list of E-items.
  4. Generate E-items by MBC.
  5. Change the MBC status to Approved for Engineering. A question is asked whether you want to create the revision for E-Items by MBC manually. Select Yes. The E-Item by MBC (tiedm3122m000) appears. Select Engineering Item Revisions from the appropriate menu.
  6. Create a new revision for all E-items by MBC. Do not copy the EBOM of a previous revision to the new revision. A question asking whether to copy the EBOM is automatically suppressed if the Engineering Item Revision (tiedm1100m000) session is opened from the E-Item by MBC (tiedm3122m000) session, and the Manual Revision Numbering check box is selected. Specify the desired effective date for the revisions if you create the new revisions in the manual revision numbering mode. You cannot specify the effective date for revisions in the MBC (tiedm3110m000) session.
  7. Fill in the new revision for all E-items by MBC in the E-Item by MBC (tiedm3122m000) session by double clicking the E-item lines.
  8. Go to the MBC (tiedm3110m000) session. Process the EBOM changes for the MBC.
  9. Change the MBC status to Approved for Production. Questions are asked whether to approve the revisions for production, create a relation for E-items by MBC, and generate EBOM copy data. Select Yes for all questions.
  10. Finalize the MBC.
Note

Do not change this check box when you are already working with revisions to avoid inconsistent revision numbering style.

Compare Effective Dates of Revisions in EBOM
If this check box is selected, the revision of a component in an EBOM must be the same or older than the revision of the parent item. You cannot enter a component if its revision is newer than the parent's revision.

If this check box is cleared, LN skips these checks.

If you create EBOM structures top to bottom, that is, if you begin with the main item and then create and add its components, checking the effective dates of revisions can cause problems.

Copy to Item when Approval by Production
If this check box is selected, if you set a revision of an engineering item to Approved by Production, LN copies the engineering item revision to an item.

If this check box is cleared, if you set a revision of an engineering item to Approved by Production, LN does not copy the engineering item revision to an item.

To set an engineering item revision to Approved by Production, in the Engineering Item Revision (tiedm1100m000) session, select the revision, and on the appropriate menu, click Approve by Production.

Note

The revision of an item can only be updated if engineering item relationships exist.

Related topics

Finalize Empty EBOMs
This parameter determines whether the PBOM of a production item must be expired when an e-item revision, which has no EBOM defined, is finalized.

If this check box is selected, the related PBOM-lines are expired while finalizing.

If this check box is cleared, the related PBOM-lines are not changed.

Overwrite Item Description and Search Keys
When production Items are updated from e-items, this parameter indicates whether Item description and search keys must be overwritten.
Note

This parameter is only used when the update process is started via Business Objects (PLM integrations).

If this check box is selected, the search key and descriptions of the target item are overwritten.

If this check box is cleared, the search key and descriptions of the target item are not overwritten.

Overwrite Physical Attributes
When Production Items are updated from E-Items, this parameter indicates whether Item fields are overwritten.

If this check box is selected, these Item fields are overwritten:

  • Weight Unit
  • Weight
  • Material
  • Standard
  • Size

If this check box is cleared, the mentioned fields are not overwritten.

Copy Item Signal Code
If this check box is selected, the item signal code of the e-item can be copied to the standard item during the process of copying the e-item to standard item.
Copy Text
When production items are updated from e-items, this parameter defines how the Item text field will be influenced.

Allowed values:

  • From E-Item: Item text is copied from e-item text.
  • From E-Item Revision: Item text is copied from e-item Revision text.
  • No Copy Action: Item text is never copied.
