Listing Family Structure

A family structure is defined by attaching family groups and families to a main family group. This structure can be used to generate family codes.

The top level can look like this:

Example 1

Family groupMAINMain family group
FamilyFamily code elementNext lower family group
Raw Materialsra
PartspaPAR Parts
ChairschCHA Chairs

In Example 1, the main family group consists of three families. The Parts and Chairs families are in fact family groups, because next to the code element the families also have the codes PAR and CHA associated with them. This means that the families are themselves composed of family groups and/or families.

The family group CHA (Chairs), one level down, can look like this:

Example 2

Family groupCHAChairs
FamilyFamily code elementNext lower family group
Office ChairsraofOFF Office Chairs
Armchairsar

The family group CHA (Chairs) consists of the family group OFF (Office Chairs) and the family Armchairs. The family group OFF consists of yet other families or family groups at lower levels (not shown here).

Note

You can define family groups in the Family Groups (tigrt0198m000) session. The main family group must be defined in the Structure Levels (tigrt0199m000) session.

You can generate actual families in the Families (tigrt0103m000) session on the basis of the code elements of the various underlying levels. Of all families from Examples 1 and 2, LN only generates family codes for Raw materials and Armchairs. The other families are actually family groups that are subdivided at a lower level.
