Function: Freight Management Master Data

This process enables you to enter and maintain master data for Freight Management. These master data can roughly be divided into the following four categories:

• Address and item-related freight master data. Here, you can enter details in regard to loading and unloading windows, waiting times, area, and so on for specific addresses. In addition, you can define instructions in regard to the transport of specific items, such as the required type of transport, mate ability rules, freight classes, and so on.
• Fleet and transport characteristics. This master data refers to fleet data, such as transport means groups and vehicles, types of transport, classification of freight, service levels, and so on.
• Master data for freight order control and planning. This sub-procedure enables the user to set up expedition/planning departments, routes, distances, planning matrices, and so on necessary for proper handling of freight orders and load planning.
• Freight rates and costs. Here, you can set up the necessary graded rate scales for carrier and client rates. In addition, you can define rate matrices, as well as extra costing rules.

Assumptions:

• Freight management is applied extensively. Consequently, the list of required master data is considerable. Obviously, if, for example, freight rates or planning are not required, a lot of master data can be omitted.
