Function: Project evaluation and closing

The objective of this business function is to close projects. Before the project is closed, commitments and actual costs must be processed. After a project is closed, purchase orders can no longer be generated. A project must be closed before it can be archived or deleted. Prior to archiving the project, clusters can be generated for performing service and maintenance.

Process: Evaluate and close project, process (MPR08a)

In this process, you can confirm project issues, set the status of the project to Closed, evaluate the project, create clusters for life-cycle maintenance and finally either delete or archive the project issues.

  • Close the Project
The objective of this process is to close projects. Before you can close projects, you must process the projects’ commitments and actual costs. After you close the project, you can no longer generate purchase orders, although you can still view some information on project performance while the project is in progress. After you close a project, you can no longer post financial transactions to that project.
  • Create clusters

You must create the As-Built structure of Project Product for service and maintenance. The resulting clusters consist of the element/activity structure and all the material resources that are used to build the Project Product.

You can use these clusters to perform the installation, warranty service, and life-cycle maintenance.

  • Archive or delete the project
You can only archive projects after the projects are closed. Projects are usually archived annually. If archiving is not required, you can also delete the closed projects.
