Function: Project planning

The objective of this business function is to support the project planning definition, which is made up of activities and activity relationships. This function also supports the generation of the network planning.

A schedule is a project action plan converted into an operating timetable. A schedule is the allocation of time over project tasks. In this function, the completion of the project through planning techniques is simplified.

Process: Plan project, process (code: MPR04a)

In the related process, you can define a network planning, you can optionally create baselines, check the available capacity, and plan long lead-time items. The objective of this process is to manage mandatory project activities.

You can plan activities for one or more projects, based on time and capacity constraints.

Project baselines are determined during the project-planning phase.

You can create project schedules by converting project action plans into operating timetables. Time is allocated to various project tasks. If a project is for estimate purposes only, you can also define estimated project duration.

For planning, you can use various external packages.

In this process, you can create a network planning, and check this planning against the available capacity. You can also plan items with a long lead-time, which must possibly be purchased even before the prospect or customer has signed the contract. This requirement is supported by creating a project, or by using an existing project, activities and a network planning. The various modules can be linked to the activities in the network that will be used in the requirements planning function.

The objective of this process is to define a project planning, including activities, activity relationships, and network planning generation.
