Function: Shipkits

This function supports the structured execution of a (shipping) Bill of Material within the warehouse outbound procedure. After a Shipkit structure (topkit-, subkit- and component-level) has been defined through a BOM structure and incorporated in a Sales Order and lines, this shipkit structure can be released to Warehouse Management. This results in the creation of a warehouse order per sales order (topkit level) and different set-numbers per sales order line (subkit level); the underlying components are stored on the warehouse order lines. The aim of creating a specific shipkit structure is to enable warehouse personnel to pick, pack and ship items as kit structures to make sure that the receiving party, responsible for assembly, gets the ‘ instructions’ needed for actually building the kit.

As already indicated, from a warehouse management perspective, the objective of this process is to carry out the outbound procedure in accordance with the shipkit structure dictated. In other words, the existing outbound advice – picking – packing – shipping structure is based on the ship kit structure.

The ship kit process within Warehouse Management is triggered by setting specific flags in the Warehouse Order Type used, but goes through the standard outbound business processes.

For shipping purposes, ‘Shipping Container’ functionality has been made available; this sub process has been included in the ‘Pack Goods’ process ( Function: Packing).
