Function: Product management

Product management handles the selection and introduction of new products into the assortment. This function also for cleans the assortment database, if assortment monitoring has come to the conclusion that particular items no longer have to be part of the assortment.

Process: Manage product (code: MPA01a)

The objective of this business process is to manage product information for new and existing products. Based on supplier information or trends, you can add new products to the assortment. As a result of periodic screenings, assortment monitoring can decide that a product will not be further maintained and must be removed from the assortment. This process handles the administrative removal of the item from the database.

Assumptions:

  • Most basic information on items that are more or less company specific, such as units, conversion factors, and so on, is maintained through the general master data flows. These flows handle basic set-up information.
  • The setting of prices is maintained through the process flows in the major business functions account management and supplier management. However, these functions set their prices in close cooperation with product management to make sure that the appropriate margins are achieved.
