	Function: Value engineering The objective of this function is to evaluate products, processes, and assets. Alternative materials, routings, working conditions, tools, and other cost-reducing issues are evaluated and calculated. Process: Value engineering (code: MEN04a) Value engineering involves eliminating, combining, rearranging, and simplifying the following issues: Operations Design Inspection requirements Materials handling and comparison Process analysis and improvement Material Workplace layout Tools and equipment: better or cheaper machinery Working conditions Yes-no outsourcing This process is performed during all phases of the product, namely during the following: Concept development Prototype design Inspection Materials handling Process analysis Test-run execution. The major purpose of this process is cost control. Assumptions: Actual changes of products and processes based on value engineering were not modeled in this process.
