Function: Process engineering

The objective of this function is to define item production data, production layout, and operations, which means that you must assign and install several tasks and work centers. You must identify tools and define routings.

During production, each product can follow a different route through the factory, different machines, and/or different operations. For a new product, which is a product innovation, or for a customized product, which is a customer specification, this route will be unknown and, therefore, must be engineered. This function defines and creates the production bill of material and the routing for the product defined, taking planning constraints into account.

Process: Process engineering (MJS, MRT) (code: MEN02a)

The steps in the process engineering process usually include the following:

  • Identify manufacturing features and parts outline.
  • Determine the discrete operations.
  • Determine the alternative production methods for each operation and select the methods.
  • Determine times, cutting conditions, stage drawings, and so on to provide a detailed plan.

Assumptions:

  • The product engineering procedure for repetitive production environments does not contain facilities to configure items that contain options.

Process: Assembly Process engineering (code: MEN02b)

The objective of this function is to set up the production process for the Mixed Model Flow Production environments.

The steps in this engineering process usually include the following:

  1. Set up line layout.
  2. Define operations.
  3. Link operations to the line layout (operation assignments).
  4. Define process characteristics such as man occupation, line rate and so on (line assignments).

Assumptions:

  • No assumptions.
