Common pre-installation tasks

The term common is used in this document to indicate a task required for all ERP LN installations, regardless of the database package you use. For detailed information, this document refers you to the relevant chapters or documents. This chapter provides a brief overview of the process you must follow to start the Infor Installation Wizard.

Hardware and software requirements

Assuming your machine is sized by Infor, or a certified Infor partner, and completely prepared for the Infor ERP software installation, you must also meet the following hardware and software requirements:

  • ERP LN software with the latest Feature Pack
  • One of the following certified databases:
    • Oracle
    • MS SQL
    • Informix
    • DB2
  • An Intel system with at least a Pentium processor.
  • An installed network interface card: ERP LN services are started during the installation of ERP LN. Therefore, a network interface card must be installed on your system before you install ERP LN. Although the network interface card does not need to be connected to the network, the ERP LN network-related services do not start unless a network interface card is detected.
  • Use SUN Java Virtual Machine for ERP LN. Microsoft JVM is no longer supported.
  • Windows Server Version with the latest Service Pack installed, configured, and running.
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or later.
  • The HTML Help viewer installed on Windows. Without this, the Help function will not work.
Note

Unless specific versions are indicated, in this document, the term Windows refers to Microsoft Windows version 2003.

Common Windows tasks

Before you install ERP LN on Windows, complete the following tasks:

  • Create the Windows user.
  • Enlarge the event log.
Create the Windows user baan

To create the Windows user baan, complete the following steps:

  1. Log on as a user with administrator rights. (You must log on to the local server).
  2. Click Start -> Programs -> Administrative Tools (Common) -> Computer management.
  3. On the User menu, add the user baan.
  4. Make the user baan a member of the db2admns, Users and Administrators groups.
Enlarge the event log

Before you install ERP LN, check the Windows event log. The default value of the Maximum Log Size is probably set to 16384, which is sufficient:

i386-Windows 2003

Before the installation of ERP LN is started, run vcredist_x86.exe. This file can be found on the installation medium.

To allocate disk space

Consider disk usage thoroughly. Estimate the future disk space to avoid future performance problems. The process to change the allocations after you allocate disk space is usually very time-consuming. To properly allocate the available disk space, consider a number of factors, such as:

  • disk capacity.
  • number of concurrent users.
  • number of companies.
  • future disk space needs.
