Alternative materials

In Infor LN FP2, you cannot define alternative materials for project items or use a project item as alternative material.

In Infor LN FP3, you can define alternative materials for project items. If the standard material is a project item, you can use a standard item (an item with an empty project segment), as alternative material or you can use a project material as alternative material, but then, the project segments of the standard material and the alternative material must be equal.

In Infor LN FP2, you cannot copy use-up materials and alternative materials in the MBC Action (tiedm3120m000) session.

In Infor LN FP3, you can prepare use-up materials and alternative materials in an engineering BOM (EBOM) and use a mass BOM change (MBC) to copy these materials to a production BOM in the MBC Action (tiedm3120m000) session.

In Infor LN FP2, LN does not change the material selection if the currently selected alternative material is available, even if the standard material or a higher-priority alternative material has become available after the alternative material was selected.

In Infor LN FP3, you can use the Generate Alternatives for Estimated Materials (ticst0216m000) session to check whether the standard material has become available after the first planning run was performed. For that purpose, you must select the Always Reconsider Alternatives check box in the Generate Alternatives for Estimated Materials (ticst0216m000) session.

In Infor LN FP2, if you want to replace a material in a BOM, you must explicitly insert the outdated material as a use-up material.

In Infor LN FP3, if you insert a new material on the same BOM position number as another item, LN automatically inserts the outdated item as use-up material in the Use Up and Alternative Materials (tibom0150m000) session.

In Infor LN FP2, many sessions had a single Alternatives Present check box to indicate both use-up materials and alternative materials.
