Diagnostic log

IFG records a diagnostic log so Infor Support can troubleshoot an issue from a log file. The log file contains only non-sensitive information about application activity. The log file never contains data that you transmit.

  • Location: %APPDATA%/iris-filing-gateway/logs/. The active file is ifg.log; older entries are stored into numbered files (such as ifg.1.log, ifg.2.log, and so on), and the total size on disk is capped.
  • Open the log folder: Click the Open logs button in the status bar to open the log folder in File Explorer.
  • What the log contains: Timestamps, the operation performed, Receipt IDs, HTTP status codes, file names and sizes, TCC, and error codes. It never contains tokens, passphrases, private keys, the XML you transmit, or IRS responses that contain taxpayer data.
To capture more detail for a Support case:
  1. Close the application.
  2. Open %APPDATA%/iris-filing-gateway/config/settings.json in a text editor, change "logLevel" to "debug" then save.
  3. Reopen the application and reproduce the issue.
  4. Click the Open logs button to locate the log file.
  5. Send the log file to Infor Support.
  6. After you finish troubleshooting, change "logLevel" back to "info" to keep the log concise.
Note: If the logLevel value is missing or not recognized, the application uses the default level of "info".
