Maintaining user field storage
The User Field Storage Maintenance form enables you to make changes to user field storage. These changes are necessary because of modifications and improvements to the Landmark system. You have the option to make these changes:
- Changing the sort order to be numeric instead of alphanumeric for numeric values in key fields. For new data areas and new installations, the default behavior is to store numeric values in a Numeric field. Previously, for user fields such values were stored in an Alpha field. By changing the sort order to numeric, records with numeric key values are sorted more appropriately.
- Adding user field overflow indicators to inline user fields. An inline user field is one stored in a buffer in order to improve performance. The overflow indicators help the system know if it needs to query the database or if it only needs to access the buffer.
- Processing orphan data for user fields. In some cases, user field values remain after their associated business objects are deleted. Use this option to report on and delete these orphan records.
- Managing user-defined fields with empty values. In the past, user-defined field records were sometimes created with empty values. Use this option to report on and delete the records with empty values.
- In the Administration Console, select .
- To export the output report to a sub-directory of the FTP site directory, specify that directory in the Subdirectory field.
- To rename the report from the default UserFieldStorageMaintOut.txt, specify that name in the Command Output File Name field
- To restrict the user field storage maintenance action to a single business class, select the business class. This action does not apply to the numeric sorting option.
- To change the sorting order for user fields with numeric value, select or for the Numeric Sorting for All User Fields field. If you enable numeric sorting, consider disabling it only when importing user fields that don't use the numeric sort. You can enable the numeric sorting again to fix those fields.
- To change the use of the overflow indicator for inline user fields, select either or for the Overflow Indicators for Inline User Fields field.
- To report on the existence of orphan user field values, select for the Orphan Data for User Fields field. To delete orphan user field values, select for the Orphan Data for User Fields field.
- To report on the user-defined fields with empty values, select for the Empty Data for User Fields field. To delete user-defined fields with empty values, select for the Empty Data for User Fields field.
