Configuring a logger for troubleshooting
This section describes how to make selections to log the type of information you want to view.
Descriptions of these options are in another section of this document.
- Access the Security Administration Console and select System Management > Security Logger > Security Logger Settings.
- In the Producer field to select the logger, for example SecurityAuthenLogger, SecurityServerLogger and so on.
- Optional: If you want to clear out old messages to make the new log file easier to navigate, select ClearLog. This action permanently removes logging information from the database for selected log files. (If you perform this step, be sure to create an archive as described in the previous section.)
- To change level of information to be logged: Open the Producer you want to use. From the Log Level drop down, select the level you want to use.
-
Optional: To select a filter so that only a particular user or set of users are logged: From the Filter User drop down, select the user or users you want to view. Specify a user name exactly, including matching case. If you want to filter on multiple users, use a vertical bar character (|) to separate user names. For example,
admin|lawson
results in records for the users admin or lawson. If a filter is not used, all records (users) are logged. When you have finished specifying the filter, select the Filter is Enabled checkbox.
- Select Sync to update the server with the logging configuration change.
- Create and view the log file as described in "Archiving a log file created through the ViewLog action" above.
- When you are finished troubleshooting, select Reset to return the logging value to the initial value. Or, alternatively, you can change the setting to whatever you want it to be as described in step 4 of this section.
