Understanding Infor Process Automation action requests
Infor Process Automation action requests are one of two similarly named features of a Landmark system. Async action requests are the other similarly named feature. For information on async action requests, see What Are Async Action Requests?.
Users initiate Infor Process Automation action requests as they are performing tasks in a Landmark application. The request is created and parameters are saved that represent the user input, keys to data, and other information the request will need to process. The request is sent either to Infor Process Automation, which then creates a work unit in Infor Process Automation. Infor Process Automation uses the work unit to route the action and gather information.
Action requests are set up within a Landmark application in Landmark Pattern Language (LPL). A business class contains the definition of the action request. An action request triggers an action to be taken on the specific business class. Any number of action requests can be created to serve different business needs. In fact, requests can be created for any business class.
Requests can include an action reason and effective date for the request. For requests requiring approval, they follow a routing and approval process, indicating who needs to review the request and approve it. The request is sent to the appropriate approvers by Infor Process Automation.
An example of an action request is a manager requesting approval to promote an employee (resource). The request is automatically sent to the administrator, who can approve, reject, or return the request to the manager. Another example is an administrator requesting personal leave for an employee (resource). The request is sent to the employee's manager for approval. If approved, it is then sent to the administrator for final approval.
You access your Infor Process Automation action requests in a Landmark application based on your role.
If the action request requires approval, the approver goes to the Inbasket to view the request and take action on it. For these and other requests that do not require approval, the submitter can view the status by going to My Actions.
The affected records are not actually updated in the Landmark application until the request has been approved by the designated approver.
