Setting up users for SMTP server authentication

You can configure the authentication such that either users authenticate as themselves or users authenticate via a shared user identity.

To set up SMTP authentication for users

  1. Create the needed actors and actor identity records on the service that you created for SMTP server authentication.
    • If you are not using a shared identity for authentication, then you must add identities for the service you created for all users. The identity credentials will consist of a user name and password.

    • If you are using a shared identity for authentication, then you must add only the shared identity record to the SMTP service. The identity credentials will consist of a user name and password.

  2. If you want users to authenticate using a shared identity, in the Administration Console, select Other > System Configuration Parameters > By Residence Category.
  3. On the Configuration Parameter Categories form, in the top list section, filter on and select “email.”
  4. On the Available Keys By Runtime Component tab, select the entry with the key of "SMTPActorId" and click Create Parameter.
  5. On the Create Parameter form, specify a length sufficient to accommodate the actor ID in the Length field and specify the actor ID for the shared identity in the Value field. Then click Submit.
