Using a background query

You can use Excel while the query is running on the server, but Excel will be locked when the query begins writing data to the worksheet. To enable a write data prompt, see Enabling a prompt before Excel is locked to write data

  1. Create a query in Infor Spreadsheet Designer.
  2. Enable background queries in Settings. See Enabling background queries.
  3. Insert a query and click Refresh.
  4. If the Write Data prompt is enabled, two options are given when the query is done processing:
    Current Sheet
When selected, Excel is locked and writing begins.
    Write Later
When selected, an encrypted file containing the queried data from the server will be saved in the %APPDATA%/Infor/BG folder.
  5. If the Write Later option is selected, a Write button appears on the Infor Spreadsheet Designer ribbon. To write the query data, click Write. If other background queries are also ready to write, click Write > Write All.
