Configuring a new alert

The Notification tab will initially be empty. You can configure an alert that sends an email notification and/or a display alert for different statuses on this tab. Alerts can be configured only for these statuses:

  • Ready

  • Processing

  • Failed

  • Cancel Pending

  • Not Ready

  • Action Pending in Server

  • Activity Running Long

  • Waiting on User Action

To configure an alert, follow these steps:

  1. On the Health Status page, select a data area.
  2. Click the Notification tab.
  3. Click New.
  4. On the Health Status Notification page, specify this information:
    Health Status Data Area

    Specify the data area.

    Status

Select the status to which the alert applies.

    Time

Specify the time in minutes in which workunits that are in the status selected.

    Note:

If the status is Activity Running Long, Time must be specified. The system uses the Time specified to determine the allowable length of time taken by the activity to run. If left blank, the default time is 60 minutes.

If the status is Failed, leave blank.

    Threshold

Specify the threshold value for the number of workunits.

    Email

Specify an email address to where to send an email notification. The email address can be entered per status, so each status alert notification can be sent to different people.

To send to multiple email addresses, specify a comma-separated list.

To set the alert as a "display only" alert and not send an email notification, leave blank.

Email notification will be sent only when the Schedule Alert Notification action is configured. For more information, see Scheduling an alert notification

Email notification will be sent separately for each status and each data area.

    Note:

This table shows how the alert is triggered based on the values specified:

    Value specified Expected behavior
Time only If a workunit has this status for longer than the time specified, an alert will be triggered.
Threshold only If the number of workunits that have this status is more than the threshold number, an alert will be triggered.
Time and Threshold If the number of workunits that have this status is more than the threshold number and these workunits have this status for longer than the time specified, an alert will be triggered.
None If both Time and Threshold are left blank, the alert cannot be saved.
  5. Click Save.
