Reverting to Earlier Versions of Configurations

Use this procedure to revert a configuration to an earlier version. This can be useful if you prefer the behavior on an earlier configuration or if you encounter issues with the current version of a configuration.

There are several methods you can use to revert to earlier versions.

  • To revert to the original (delivered) configuration:

You can choose to revert to the original configuration in three ways:

    • Delete the configuration

You can delete the configuration completely. When you delete a configuration in the Configuration Console, this deletes the current configuration version as well as any previous version. If there was a delivered version of the object, then that is what the user will see. If there was no delivered object, such as would happen if the configuration represented a new field or new action request, then there will be no versions of any kind remaining.

    • For page, list, and form configurations, you can use the Make Private button in order to change the configuration from a global one to a user personalization that only affects your user interface. This means that no changes to the delivered behavior for the user interface object are active and all users will see the delivered behavior (except you, because the configuration has become a personalization for you, and except for any other users who have made personalizations for the same object). You can view your user personalizations from the My Personalizations list.

    • For many types of configurations, including lists, forms, and most components of forms, you can use the Revert button at the top of the right pane to return to the last saved version. This enables you to discard changes before you save them.

    • For page configurations, you can use the Reset Page button to revert to the delivered definition of the page.

  • To revert to a specific earlier version of a configuration

For menu, page, security class, and form configurations, as well as for the configurations for components within business classes, you can select a specific earlier version and then revert to that. If you revert to an earlier version, all versions are retained, but the new current version matches the one you reverted to.
