Bursting and hierarchical analysis

You can create special InfoSets that contain information about employees and other people that notifications can be delivered to.

There are several Smart Notification features that rely on these InfoSets including:

  • Hierarchical Analysis. Any data from any source that contains employee IDs can be displayed in the context of the organization chart. The hierarchy improves the data several ways:
    • Employee names are added. The viewer now has a name instead of just an employee ID, and can go immediately to email or a phone directory.
    • Organizational grouping is apparent. Employees are organized into visual organization charts.
    • Contact reduction. It is easy to see that by contacting a couple of supervisors a notification recipient can reduce the amount of communication time needed to discuss a situation.
    • Contact choice. Not all employees can be contacted all the time. The hierarchy display shows more employees that can be contacted. Communication choices can be made on the urgency and priority of the problem.
    • Closest single common owner. A single common owner can easily be found. This is the single person who all the employees in the data work for, with no unnecessary levels of management.
  • The Default Burst/User InfoSet specifies the organization chart used for generating hierarchy displays.
  • Bursting. This feature allows you to deliver notifications to people because they are related to the notification data in some way. The rows of data in the notification will be filtered specifically for each recipient.
    • There can be many InfoSets defining bursting recipients. These InfoSets can contain information about different kinds of recipients, for example, employees, customers, vendors. These InfoSets define an ID of some kind and the email address of the recipient. For example these InfoSets could contain Vendor ID and vendors contact email address, or Location ID and location managers email address.
    • Recipients of burst notifications do not have to login to the Smart Notification server, and do not even need access to the corporate intranet. This makes administration easier and supports row level security.
    • If the data contains employee IDs and a hierarchy is applied to the user IDs, notifications can be burst based on the organization chart, for example, to the supervisors of the employees in the data, or to the third level of the organization.

Any data source type that Smart Notification supports can be used to create these special InfoSets.
