Report bursting and filtering
To understand report bursting and filtering, it is useful to look at a report as containing two independent properties: structure and data.
Report structure can be broken into smaller structures each of which is accessible to one or more users and user groups. Distribution of sub-structures of reports is referred to as bursting and is accomplished using rights.
Data filtering is independent of report structure. Report data can be filtered to different users and user groups using parameters. Parameters are either embedded in the Crystal report or are attached to the report in Reporting Services. Either way, parameters prompt users to specify what data is to be included in the report, including structures in the master report.
